Teachers Institute in Marion 1863 Three Day Conference

The Linn County Teachers Institute met in Marion on October 87 1863 with 133 teachers in attendance. Officers elected for the year included Ira Fairbanks president James Giles vice president and pro tem secretary H S Bradshaw. Lectures by Prof Ingalls Rev Atherton and Rev Button highlighted sessions on theory and practice of teaching and the value of common schools. Resolutions praised host residents and teachers institutes as a path to broad education and national unity.
