Proclamation Call for Iowa Volunteers in 1861 Civil War
The Iowa governor Samuel J. Kirkwood issues a proclamation calling for ten companies of volunteers to join the federal military effort. Each company must have at least 78 men with officers elected, ready by May, to reinforce the Union as the nation faces rebellion.
