Letter and wartime anecdotes from 1861 Kentucky and Iowa
The piece compiles excerpts from Southern papers, including a June 20 1861 letter from Executive Mansrox to a Kentuckian praising Kentucky's loyalty and military support. It also recounts a Camp Lyon provocation near Maj. Crocker and a fearless act by Capt. Baker's wife, dubbed Col. Molly Pitcher, amid Civil War tensions. It closes with a Cleveland speech excerpt praising Lincoln and endorsing his early acts.
