Seventeenth Century Scenes and Local Wit in Marion
A fragment from the Linn County Register mixes moralizing vignettes and social satire. It includes a long mock scene of a seventeen year old girl, a husband’s boastful account of neglecting family duties, and humorous snippets about manners, work, and town life. It closes with political and colonial-era reflections and a joke about a proposed new territory.
