An unnamed Valley Times leader rails at Crocker & Co accusing them of lavish spending to influence Iowa legislators. It claims 32,000 dollars spent at Des Moines with potential doubling, and urges curbs on delinquent tax payers while proposing draconian penalties for nonpayment.
The legislature considers a resolution on state land grants and the attorney general's opinion on resuming grants to the LG ALL RR Co. Curtis, a Missouri arrival, is appointed guardian for two enslaved girls from Iowa City as a court case unfolds amid jurisdictional tensions. Good, Gay. Chane of Ohio is elected U.S. Senator, replacing Pagl.
