Troops pushed across the river after bridges were completed while artillery rained iron hail on the far bank. About 100 prisoners were taken. several enemy works were captured and a rail ridge burning left thirty to forty houses in the city. Artillery fired between eight and nine thousand rounds.
The writer claims the Ozark trip is safe and that the regiment will soon be rejoined. He says a physician’s routine of treating 150 to 200 patients each morning for two months is exhausting and must end. He warns that if another Sunday occurs in this regiment another letter will follow.
