Eccentric Ministers and a Theatre Skirt Incident
In Hartford Retreat a doctor displays open eyes in prayer and a patient praises the physician with humor. A preacher with absent mindedness recites, while Peter Cartwright’s license leads to schooling. At Holliday Street Theatre a Belle’s hoop skirt collapses, leaving her dress exposed and causing astonished laughter.

The Balloon Skirts and Crinoline Critics
A satirical examination of ballooning skirts and crinoline fashion, describing the towering silhouettes as untidy and obstructive. It recounts character sketches of the Stumpy Woman, Tall Woman, Ul' Woman, and Thin Woman, critiquing fashion’s grip on public spaces and daily life. Dr. von Blair Smith is noted as a preacher in the closing anecdote.
