An on the Dubuque line seven miles from Dubuque Tuesday left one dead and several injured when a tear car derailment overturned cars and spilled freight. Breakman Wilkin Lovelace was killed instantly. Conductor Gifford and others sustained injuries while passengers including Mrs Hoeppner and Wm Thompson escaped largely unharmed.

The Pensacola Observer relays a night visit by Doya a daring yard machinist who built a decoy fire on Santa Rosa Island to probe Fort Pickens. A Second Lieutenant was captured and released after a drink and talk. Doyle later entered the fort to spike the guns but was caught and confined for the night then sent to the Navy Yard.
