Seagle Plans Handling of June Soldier Bonus Payments

Postmaster J. Frank Seagle said the June release of soldier bonus bonds will arrive shortly after June 15 and be sent by registered mail to veterans. Bonds must be delivered in person and unclaimed letters return to Washington after 30 days. Local offices will issue ad interim receipts for early cashing, with funds sent from Asheville to owners. National totals estimate about 65,000 NC veterans eligible and a state payment near 35 million dollars.

Big Sale of State Auto Tags Set to Break Records

North Carolina motor vehicle division has sold 452,066 pairs of license plates through Thursday, 60,110 fewer than the 512,176 sold in all of 1935. Orders come in at 750 to 1,000 daily and a new record is expected after the half year tag price takes effect on July 1.

Tractor accident claims Granite Quarry man

Jacob D. Miller aged 25 of Granite Quarry Rowan county was fatally crushed when a tractor being loaded onto a truck at Chine Grove slipped and fell onto him. He worked for a Salisbury hardware firm.

Druggists Oppose Sales Tax at NC Pharmaceutical Meet

Delegates at the 57th annual convention of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association in Greensboro last week adopted resolutions opposing any form of sales tax. They selected Raleigh as the 1937 meeting place.

Eddie Roberts, 19, toppled 83 tombstones in New Castle Pennsylvania while drunk. He refused to discuss the incident except to say he knocks down tombstones when drinking, and some stones needed a derrick to replace.

The Duke University graduation events are listed for June 6 to 8 with ceremonies at University Stadium and campus venues. Rural Caswell County power line under construction. Memorial Service for Rev Andrew Loretz Held at Daniels Church

A memorial service marks the 125th anniversary of Rev Andrew Loretz death at Daniels Evangelical and Reformed Church four miles northwest of Lincolnton. The event includes a grave marker unveiling by Marguerite Douglass Link, Rev O B Michael leads the program with multiple speakers, hymns, prayers, and a memorial address by Rev Jacob C Leonard. A 10:30 a m service precedes the unveiling and a baptism at St Paul church afterward.

Annual Memorial Service at Unity Church

The Unity Presbyterian church in East Lincoln held its annual memorial service last Sunday with a large crowd. Rev. W. T. Smith presided and gave the welcome, while Rev. Van B. Harrison of Polkville delivered the 11 o'clock sermon. Prof. Joe R. Nixon spoke after a picnic dinner and readings from Broad Axe and The Forge were read. Memorial days were begun by the late A. Nixon who attended each year.
