The North State Hotel hosted fifty six merchants and guests for the Lincolnton area Merchants Association installation of officers and directors. Lex Ramseur presided as president with Hal Hoyle Jr as vice president and C DeWayne Davis as executive secretary treasurer. Local and out of town officials attended including J E Henley and J P Temple. special music and a lemon meringue dessert followed a provided meal.

Baxter Homeplace Destroyed By Fire
The George Baxter homeplace in Howards Creek township burned last night around 11 o clock. The roof caught fire and the cause is undetermined. Mrs Dorus Neal and her son Charlie Neal lost nearly all their possessions. The house was a large, substantial county property now owned by Ernest E Baxter and Tom Baxter. Loss runs into thousands and was only partly insured. Lincolnton fire department aided but could not stop the blaze due to water shortages. Gasoline is noted as the most valuable petroleum product.

Fred A. Sigman of Newton sold 473 and a half bushels of wheat at Lincoln Milling Company last week for 2.46 per bushel, totaling 1 164.32 dollars. The payment included a base price of 2.01, a fifteen cent government subsidy, and a thirty cent Famine Emergency payment. Details from Texarkana report recall the fatal April 5 ambulance crash at Seventh and Texas avenue. Cpl. Essie J. Ballard 34 of Iron Station was killed instantly. Sgt. Edward K. Minor and David R. Van Gelder were treated for injuries. driver C. M. Brantley was treated for minor injuries. Ballard's funeral was held in Noel Missouri with burial in Anderson Missouri. he left a wife and two children Gingey Mae and James Fred. He served three years, with nine months overseas, and re enlisted at Red River Arsenal Texarkana.
