James Newton a 24 year old former coast guardsman confessed to killing his two infant daughters after a family drive in the Half Moon Bay area. He said he struck his wife with a bottle during an argument over abortion and later killed the children. His wife Lorraine is hospitalized with a skull fracture.

Forty War Brides Return Home From Boston

About forty disillusioned brides of Canadian and Newfoundland soldiers sailed from Boston for Britain and France. They blamed failed marriages on the hard life in Canadian woods and Nova Scotia. One said they would not adjust to that life and quit. Most carried their legal limit of fifty dollars in foodstuffs and twenty five dollars in fabrics.
