William Joyce Executed for Treason at Wadsworth Prison

London reports the 40 year old American born broadcaster William Joyce famed as Lord Haw Haw was hanged at Wadsworth Prison for high treason. The execution occurred shortly after 9 am local time with only prison officials present. The sentence had been confirmed by a British court last September 19.

T L Cline husband of Mrs B M Cline Lincolnton NC is among 1100 high point Navy veterans returning to the States aboard the USS New Kent from Saipan. The New Kent part of the Magic Carpet fleet left December 21 and is due in San Pedro early this month to send passengers to Separation Centers for discharge formalities before civilian life.

Five Acre Cotton Contest To Be Held In 1946

A North Carolina state five acre cotton contest will run in 1946 under the State College Extension Service with total prizes of 3000 dollars. Miss Knox Heafner Killed in Hit and Run

Due to bad weather the opening of city and county schools was postponed to Thursday after a survey by S. Ray Lowder and Joe R. Nixon. Miss Heafner 28 of Mt. Holly was killed Saturday night when struck by a hit-and-run car in High Shoals. John Hugh Abernethy is jailed in Gastonia on manslaughter charges. Funeral rites will be held in Mt. Holly.

Two-Headed Baby Girl Born in England Dies After 50 Hours

A two headed newborn girl, born New Year's Day to Mrs. Joseph Govro of Missouri, died after 50 hours of life at Selly Oak hospital in Birmingham. Doctors planned post-mortem to study anatomy. infant weighed five pounds twelve ounces and had two heads sharing a body. The father is an American soldier who returned to the U S last July.

The Republican Executive committee of North Carolina's Tenth district voted 4 to 1 to not nominate a candidate for the upcoming special congressional election to replace the late Representative Joe W. Small World Ties Soldier to Local War Housing Resident

At Seymour Johnson Field in Goldsboro a GI awaiting discharge met G. T. Boykin of a war housing project. They became friends, and the soldier later visited Boykin. He noticed a picture in the apartment and said it resembled a friend he played with in the Pacific. The man then learned he had known Boykin's son.

Taxpayers face January 15 deadline for 1945 estimates

Washington notes that January 15 is the final day to file estimates of 1945 income tax and to pay the last quarterly estimate. Farmers with most income from farming may delay to January 15 and file a regular return instead of a separate declaration, while others may file Form 1040 or amend declarations by January 15.
