The Interstate Commerce Commission granted railroads authority to set cement rates in carloads from Birmingham North Birmingham Phoenixville and Boyles Alabama to points in North and South Carolina without following the long and short haul rule. X rays failed to reveal it and surgery was performed to remove the pin from his appendix in Sanford on December 2. Three Cotton Mills to Begin Operations After Shutdown
Steady employment for about 350 textile workers in the Piedmont region follows the sale and leasing of mills. Officer Sumner McBee Willis died Monday night at 8 30 after a period of illness from pneumonia. The 60 year old Charlotte police veteran will be buried at Pisgah Methodist church cemetery after funeral services at Chalmers Memorial church. He served 20 years in the force and was acting city jailor at headquarters. He is survived by a daughter, a son, two half-sisters and two half-brothers.
