East Lincoln residents will share in a rural electrification project covering 140 families in Gaston Lincoln and Catawba counties. Duke Power Company approved the line from Mount Holly through Mountain Island Lucia and into Lincoln and into Catawba counties, about 20 miles long. Construction will start after State Highway Commission plans allowing road following, with power financed by the company and rural residents paying standard rates.

Negro Is Given Death Sentence For Slaying Of Girl In Asheville
In Asheville on August 22 Martin Moore a 6 foot 3 inch 22 year old Negro was convicted of killing Helen Clevenger a New York University student in her hotel room on July 16. The jury sentenced him to die in the state gas chamber October 2. Moore showed little emotion during the verdict. His defense plans an appeal to the state Supreme court. The case followed a four day trial amid contention over his confession which prosecutors said was voluntary.
