Train wreck near Hickory derails Southern Railway coach
A Southern Railway passenger train No 16 derailed about three miles east of Hickory near Oyama around 7 pm. Initial reports say at least three people were injured with no fatalities. Cause given as a split switch affecting the second engine and passenger cars. Police and fire units from Hickory and surrounding towns responded with searchlights.

Funeral services for Clarence A Fortenberry 64 died from a heart ailment were held Sunday at 11 am at New Home Methodist Church near Casar with Rev J S Higgins and others officiating. Survivors include wife nine children and three grandchildren. He lived in Lincolnton for years and an appeal urged keeping Lincolnton clean.

New Wheat Arrival Promises Relief for North Carolina Mills
North Carolina reports a 7 038 000 bushel wheat crop this year up 15 percent from 193? past. July 1 storage shows 9 000 bushels of old wheat in state mills versus 9 500 a year ago and 79 000 for 1935 44 average. Nationally about 101 500 000 bushels remain stored on and off farms, smaller than 20 year high except 1937 drought. Current stocks are roughly 36 percent of last year 281 000 000 bushels.

Mittie J Haynes aged 81 died yesterday at Reeves Gamble Hospital after seven months illness. Born in Cuthbert Georgia on February 22 1865 she was daughter of Judge W C and Sara Perkins. Survived by daughter Mrs Robert Harrill two sons W P Haynes and T M Prater and several grandchildren. Funeral Friday at 10 from Harrill residence with Rev C C Herbert Jr and Rev Grant Folmsbee officiating. burial in Hollybrook Cemetery.
