Seaboard Railroad Reorganization Returns to Operation
After a long receivership dating to 1930, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad resumes full operation as a new company takes over with a 12:01 morning August 1 start. New board members include Legh R. Powell Jr. and Henry W. Anderson, with directors from Baltimore, New York, Richmond, Tampa, and other cities. The system spans about 4200 miles across six states and serves major vegetable, cotton, tobacco, citrus, and lumber regions.

Vale Serviceman Is With First Cavalry
T/5 Robert L. Boyles of Vale North Carolina serves with Headquarters Troop of the 5th Cavalry Regiment in the 1st Cavalry Division in Japan. He earned the Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with one star and the Philippines liberation ribbon with one star along with the Good Conduct award. He entered the Army in 1944 and trained at Fort Riley. His wife and parents live at Route No. 2, Yale, North Carolina.

Lincolnton police recovered $1,200 worth of fabric stolen from Hibritten Furniture Company in Lenoir. Two new arrests were made for breaking and entering and grand larceny, joining four others in Caldwell County jail awaiting hearings.

Funeral services for Caleb Frederick Lineberger of Hickory Route Two were conducted at Mount Olive Lutheran Church after his death in a Hickory hospital. Gastonia Aug 2 About 1 am death claimed Mrs Alice Burns Robinson 31 at Garison General Hospital after critical burns in the Bessemer City residence fire that also killed six year old Hilda Ann Brakefield. Five other victims in hospital improving. Fire started when an oil can exploded igniting the kitchen. Lincolnton teen Jimmy Harrill 17 qualified for Navy Hospital Corps School in San Diego.

Camp Meeting Opens At Balls Creek August 17
Plans for the Balls Creek camp meeting set to begin Saturday night August 17. A new building to house the grocery and eating shack near the spring replaces the old structure. Grounds are being cleaned and tents readied as families arrive early for vacation ahead of the event. The one hundred and sixteenth annual Rock Springs campground meeting at Denver began yesterday and will climax this Sunday with thousands expected in attendance.
