Old Abe Mine Bonanza at Baxter Moun tain
In November 79 JM Allen O D Kelsey and A P B Lavingstone located the Old Abe or Obi Abe claim on Baxter Mountain north and east of Baxter Gulch. After years of partial work a rich vein was found in 1884 to 94 with a shaft 290 feet deep and a drift along No 2 showing continued continuity. The Gallagher Mill began stamping in December 94 and owners report $99,000 in gold bullion, with a 60 HP hoist and plans for a 20 stamp mill. The Ober Abe Co fonds remains strong with White Duke residents funding development and a bright town-wide outlook.
