The article argues the September constitutional draft for the Territory of New Mexico is sound and worthy of adoption. A convention of the Beouul jcan party is summoned to meet in Almaquer on September 13. Delegates will come from San Juan Colfax Dona Ana Lincoln Mora Taos Rio Arriba Valencia and two from Bet Dy and Chaves. County committees must arrange county conventions and delegate selection. Proxies not allowed. alternates disallowed. territorial committee to act where no county committee exists. County conventions should be held by August 20 and delegates certified to the Territorial Convention.
The Republican District Convention met in Roswell on August 23 to organize for the Territorial race. George L. Ulrich chaired, W. Hawkins was temporary chair, and W. S. Colhoun secretary. Committees on organization and credentials were named, reports presented, and nominations for Representative and Council discussed. Prager declined, C. B. Raddy named for Council, and Lincoln County nominees listed for Territorial delegates. A resolution denouncing a Democrats lands bill was adopted, urging Republican Congress to protect arid-land settlers. The ticket praised for Eddy County and Lincoln County, with Tillotson named as Representative nominee and Tom Tillotson endorsed as strong local figure.
