Speed Wash opens Saturday July 2 in Lime Springs near the post office. The new coin operated laundry offers seven days of self service with multiple machines, automatic changers, soap vendors, and large wrinkle free dryers. Grand opening features free wash and dry service all day from 9 am to 5 pm with coffee and donuts.
Fire damaged the Lime Springs Texaco Station office about 6 15 am last Thursday. Fire Chief Ben Davis and volunteers fought the blaze with water from the truck while heavy rain hampered efforts. Some office records survived, but furniture and merchandise were destroyed and the workshop was smoked. No cash was lost. Station attendant Lyle Schutte had just opened the business and was away briefly when the fire started. The cause is not known, but an electrical storm is suspected. Mr and Mrs Artin Hebrink announce a son Mark Wayne 11 lbs 5 oz born Thursday June 23 at St Josephs Mercy Hospital Cresco joining two sisters. Mr and Mrs Gailen Johnson welcome a daughter Kimberly Joan born Thursday evening, they have one other son Terry. Social Security agent visits Cresco schedule with Richard Tryhus in Cresco Court Room for benefit applications. Edward Knuth Granger Minn dies at 84. Scout Camporee registration due July 5. Story hour at library July 6 with Phoebe Klomp. Lime Springs softball vs Hank's Cafe Cresco Friday night.
Local society notes detail visits and social events. Mr and Mrs Art Nagel called on Mrs Fannie Johnson while Mr and Mrs James Roberts of New York visit A J Roberts. Numerous weddings dinners and church events are reported among residents from Lakota to Le Roy with relatives from Waterloo Mason City Rochester and Sioux Falls noted.
The U S American Legion partners with Iowa safety officials to distribute 120 000 Slow Down And Live leaflets in 44 border towns on July 3 and 4. Drivers entering from neighboring states will receive cards and speed law details as part of a joint safety campaign amid a busy Fourth of July period.
Last Thursday morning saw 2.4 inches of rain with sheets of downpour flooding east and southeast Lime Springs. Basements flooded, Lidtke Park flooded, and a river trip by motor boat noted as possible only at high water. County roads damaged by washed culverts and gravel loss. further rain reported westward near McIntire with cornfields damaged and haying disrupted.
The Smith Construction Company of New Hampton began asphalt street reconstruction in Lime Springs. Multiple blocks from the gym area to the city limits will be dug up, scarified, relaid, asphalt coated, and chip rock surfaced with resealing and dust treatment on several adjoining streets and approaches.
Most Lime Springs business firms will close all day next Monday, July Fourth, for a long weekend. Farmers Mr and Mrs Erwin Dobbs of Omaha Lyle and Bonnie, and Mr and Mrs H H Parchman of Cresco called at Mrs Jennie Williams home Wednesday evening.

A free Madden Stillian Circus comes to Lime Springs on Saturday July 2 set up at Railroad Park with performances at 4 PM and 8 PM. Also notes new parking area graded by the town behind stores opposite the elevator to be rolled and surfaced with crushed rock.
