Community Club Dinner Attracts Fifty Members

Fifty Community Club members attended a Friday chicken dinner served by the Builders group of the Methodist Church at the Legion Hall. Meg H Adix outlined the club’s purpose, Tom Kakac shared fishing trip films, and President Harry Kitchen led the business session with minutes by H E Jones. Discussion covered town road issues and signs, plus plans for a Falk Festival on July 29 30 in cooperation with the American Lemon.

Extend Dairy Queen Entries to July 4

Extend entries for the Dairy Queen Contest to July 4 at Elma July 3-4 Celebration. Contest will begin at 1 pm on the day of the event. All contestants must be present by 1 pm on July 4. Eligible are single girls aged 17 to 23 with prizes totaling about 150 dollars for three winners. Bake sale and lunches will be served by Saetersdal Lutheran Ladies Aid next Saturday July 2 at Town Hall Lime Springs starting 5 pm.

Family Reunion Brings Dodds Gathered From Iowa Towns

The Dodds annual family reunion was held Saturday June 25 at Mrs Hush Williams home. A cooperative lunch followed by games and horseshoes. Truck Mishap Delays Lorenz Tank Injury Near Pinning

Lorenz Tank suffered hip bruises and a near serious injury when a tire blew out on a truck driven by his brother Walter. A shovel shifted in the bed pinning Lorenz against the cab, requiring four men to free him.

No Land Boom in Iowa Up to Date

Iowa shows a continuing absence of a land boom with farm mortgage debts easing by 15 percent from 1946 to 1949 while U S farm debt rose nationally by over 90 percent since 1946. Iowa land values March 1949 stood at 154 percent of the 1912 14 base versus 175 percent for the nation.

Lime Sprigs Band Rehearsal Sets Stage for Saturday Concert

The Lime Sprigs Band held its first rehearsal Friday led by M. F Lysing, Cresco Band director, who will direct the summer band. Eighteen players attended with 25 hoped for, practice Friday at 7 00 and concert Saturday at 8 15. The concert will be at the little park between City Hall and Post Office with a platform planned. More folks urged to attend and bring donations of chickens.

Lavonne Jones Weds Spring Valley Dentist in Double Church Ceremony

Lavonne Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Jones of Chester married Dr Elvin L Morse son of Mr and Mrs Morse of Le Reve in a double ceremony at the Methodist church in Chester. The groom, a University of Minnesota graduate, has practiced dentistry in Spring Valley since Navy service. A reception for 75 followed and the couple departed for a Yellowstone Park wedding trip.

FHA Honors Families Who Paid Farm Ownership Loans

About 50 farm families who paid off 40 year farm ownership loans last year will be honored at the Farm Bureau Achievement Day at Town State College on July 7. Each receives a certificate of achievement and attendees will hear S C Hughes discuss the national program.

Crow Hunt Won by Saratoga Sportsmen

The Saratoga Sportsmen's Club won the County Crow Hunt with proof of nearly 400 crows destroyed. A victory dinner will be hosted by the winning club, with Cresco Wildlife Club and Lime Springs Fish & Game Club as runners up. The dinner is at Cresco Wildlife Building at the Fair Grounds.

No. 4-H Girls Delegation Attend State Convention

A Howard County 4-H Girls Club sent a 15 member delegation and leaders to the State 4-H Girls Convention in Ames from June 71 to 24 with its Intensive program. Delegates traveled by bus with Winnesheik county and by car with other leaders. The group competed in the Better Groomed contest and several members received recognition while others attended the county club programs and events.
