Elma Legionnaires Parade Draws Massive Mile-Long Display
Elma hosts a three day Legionnaires and Auxiliary event July 2 to 4 with a two mile parade at 2 pm Sunday. Thousands watched bands from Minneapolis to Preston march past, including 28 member Bear Cat Post Auxiliary Drum Corps and snow white horses. The next convention moves to Lake City in 1940.

Pheasant Distribution Planned Across County Farms
Sportsmen and game warden Kennard Baer arranged 500 baby pheasants from the Iowa state conservation farm at Boone to be kept six weeks at the Herman Bronner farm near Lime Springs before distribution to hunting restricted farms in the county. A second 500 chicks arrived for Decorah. In Lime Springs, Dorothy Craft and Guy Van De Weerd were married at the Methodist Church by Rev. Joseph Yates with a single ring ceremony.

Father of Mike McCarville Dies at Cresco
Funeral services for Phillip McCarville 83 were held at Assumption church Cresco with Rev John Brickley officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery followed as Rev J A McMahon assisted. He died at home June 21 after an eight month illness from a stroke. Survivors include wife Elizabeth three children Raymond Julia and Mike plus seven grandchildren two brothers and two sisters. Local mourners and visitors attended from New Ulm Yankton Austin Charles City and Lime Springs.
