Legion To Hand Traffic Warnings July 3 4

Lime Springs American Legion posts plan to distribute safety cards to every driver at intersections during the Fourth of July holiday. Kenneth Peter, post commander, notes 42 posts statewide join the effort, aiming to reduce holiday deaths after last year’s 22 fatalities. The program run by the town safety department will issue 50,000 cards urging drivers to slow down and drive safely.

Three Local Masons to Receive 50 Year Certificates

The Masonic Lodge of Lime Springs Howard Lodge No. 214 will honor three members with 50 year certificates tonight at 8 p.m. in a closed meeting. Hush E. Jones Charles B. Stoakes and W. R. Williams will receive the certificates, with a 7 p.m. dinner at the Presbyterian Church beforehand and a special speaker planned for the lodge meeting.

Lime Springs Band Concert July 4 Patriotic Program

The Lime Springs Hand presents its fifth summer concert next Wednesday July 4 featuring patriotic numbers and marching pieces. Cherry Grove and Lime Springs Merge Telephone Services

In a June meeting at Cherry Grove Minnesota the Cherry Grove Switch Company and the Lime Springs Telephone Company approved a merger of assets and service areas. The plan, begun in March, aims to modernize lines, install dial telephones, and create one calling area spanning about 650 phones across Cherry Grove Greenleafton and Lime Springs. The project requires an estimated $60,000 and will expand the area and reduce toll charges for patrons in both communities.

Lightning causes gas burn hole in Lime Springs home

The Morris family near Lime Springs awoke to a fire on the southeast wall after lightning struck a REA ground wire and burned a hole in the bottled gas line to the stove. Mrs Morris alerted the Fire Department, and firemen found no fire in the walls. A heavy rain later boosted local crops, with corn oats and hay noted as improving. A county GOP meeting in Cresco and a family gathering were also reported.

Poles Arrive for New Athletic Field Project

A large Minneapolis bound truck delivered eight 60 foot night poles for the new athletic field. Interstate Power Co crews unloaded and set them, replacing old field poles. Merle Lamon Paul Larimore and Joe Kovenig represented the company. Pole weight about 1600 pounds each. Poles are western red cedar and treated in Minneapolis. Wiring to follow underground cable advised. A fund drive is being considered to cover costs. Work on backstop progresses as lines for softball and football fields are laid out and the field shape becomes clear.
