County 4 H girls attend state Girls Convention

Town 4 H girls and local leaders 1 832 of them were on the Iowa State College campus at Ames for the eighth annual state Girls Convention. Delegates from Howard County will report back at local clubs. The event drew about 8 000 for Balfe s The Bohemian Girl on the college field. A ruling on corn hog contracts allows renting or leasing land not under contract under new AAA guidelines to meet emergencies.

Katherine Roberts Honored With Shower

Mrs. James V. Shoemaker hosted about sixteen schoolmates and intimate friends Friday at a one oclock luncheon and shower for her sister Miss Katherine Roberts bride of the season. Cresco Plans Big Fourth of July Celebration

Cresco gears up for a major Fourth of July program at the county seat featuring a fireworks display by the Theatre Cathedral Company at the fairgrounds, a platform act lineup with Lange and Lee and Donna Lee, a Cresco versus Elma baseball game, and a daytime parade and street events culminating in a night sky show. Fellowship Sunday at Methodist Church observation and farewells

Fellowship Day will be held at the Methodist Church on the last Sunday in June. Rev. and Mrs. Prescott leave for England after a morning service centered on fellowship with Christ and one another. Donations to the Joash Chest fund church obligations, a fellowship dinner, and dedication of the New Kitchen to Mrs. M. Jane Gates will follow, with afternoon parlor presentations and kitchen viewing.

Don Mead Nominated for Cresco Postmaster

Congressman Fred Biermanne says Don Mead is recommended for acting Cresco postmaster. Postmaster Patterson’s term ends Feb 19 1975 but he plans to resign to use pension law timing, with Bon set to take over July 1. The Dvorak highway between Proti vic and Cresco becomes a state primary road June 5, renumbered and maintained by the state highway commission.

Preston coach gets two year probation for chain letter bid

Edward C. Johnson, 25, a Preston high school coach from Winana Minnesota, was placed on two years probation after pleading nolo contendere to a postal law violation linked to chain letters. He allegedly signed his name at top and bottom of a list of five people in the dime chain letter scheme.

Good crowds at synod near Mankato

Large attendance from Lime Springs at the 77th Minnesota Welsh Synod near Mankato last week. The event marked the 9th Presbytery in the Minnesota English Synod with public meetings drawing big audiences and several speakers including M. I. Jones and Mrs Jones.

Chicago Boy Injures Arm While Visiting Lime Springs

Eight year old Daniel Trem of Chicago visiting relatives east of Lime Springs slipped over a fence, breaking his left elbow and splintering the bone. Taken to Cresco for X rays and a cast set. The report notes dangers of driving and liquor to others.

Body Found Above Dam in Morning River Scene

The body of Albert Ingebret was found Monday morning about 5:30 above the Upper Town river near the Old Town Dam. Clifford Chick spotted the body. death ruled drowning with no inquest. He was 34, born April 26, 1901, survived by his father Let Ingebret and brothers John Elmer Knute, the latter a sheriff. Funeral services were held in Lime Springs and at Saetersdal Lutheran church with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Cream Grading Law Starts July Fifth in Iowa

Beginning July 5 Iowa creameries stations and buyers must grade cream per new law with at least one percent price variation per pound of butterfat. Grades include Sweet Cream First Second and Unlawful Cream. exams and licenses issued by the State Department of Agriculture and Dairy Extension Service. Prof. Mortensen of Iowa State College endorses the law as improving dairy products and expanding markets.

Auction sale on H G Grosler farm west of Lime Springs

Carl F Grelser holds a morning sale on the H G Grelser farm 24 miles west of Lime Springs on Midway Road 3 miles north. Thirty head of cattle comprise the sale. Herald printed the bills. Mrs Rev J L Davis and son of New York City visit Mrs Wm Parry and Gladys and other relatives. They traveled from New York City via Chicago and other places and will return home by boat from Duluth Minnesota.
