Front Team Wins Lightweight Division at Chester Picnic

Price Jones of Lime Springs led a novice team to first place in the lightweight class of the horse pulling contest on June 14 at the Chester Old Settlers’ Picnic. Assisted by Eugene Jones, the team outpulled six other teams, with Belgian mares Fannie and Fiorrie, weighing 3100 pounds, pulling a 5700 pound lead.

Marilyn Thoreson Weds Wayne Hovey in Ostrander Ceremony

Marilyn Thoreson and Wayne Hovey were married in a double ring ceremony at Ostrander Lutheran Church on June 14. The bride wore white satin with a net yoke and train, with pearl accessories, and was given in marriage by her father. Attendants wore yellow and green gowns, pink gladiola bouquets. A church reception followed, with guests, cake, and a wedding trip to Wisconsin Dells.

Truck Oversets Route. Farm Incident on Ek Metabrant

A truck overturned on a rural route causing minor injuries to two occupants. Emergency crews arrived from RK Farm and Willams, securing the scene and directing traffic. The driver reported losing control near Ne PRK Cg, with no dangerous materials involved. Police are investigating the cause of the mishap.

Harmony Couple Wed in Candlelight Ceremony

Paul Halweg of Harmony and Naomi Snell of Canton were married at Harmony Methodist Church in a candlelight double ring ceremony led by Rev. Clare W. Karsten. The bride wore a white nylon net gown, pearls, and carried red roses, with a reception for 150 afterward. The couple plans to farm in Harmony after a brief wedding trip to Wisconsin Dells.

Greenbear Ton Beats York 8 to 2 at Legion Field

Last Thursday Greenbear ton defeated York 8 to 2 in an eight inning game at Legion Field. Pitcher Elwyn Menaink for Greentearton held York to two runs. On Uphenday night June 23 York needed extra innings to defeat Fountain 14 to 10. Tonight Thursday June 28 Har em hosts York at Legion Field.

Driver Bob Walton Escapes Truck Crash With Cream Spill

The driver, Bob Walton, was uninjured as his truck lost control after the tis-rods steering snapped. Cab and enclosed cream can box suffered extensive damage, with a lone patron’s cream spilled. Stone escaped injury.

Outstanding Scholar Walker Couple Visit Kin in Wisconsin

Outstanding Scholar Mr and Mrs John Walker were guests at Mrs Walker's parents Mr and Mrs Glen Jones for several weeks. They left Sunday afternoon for a new home at Lake Crystal Minnesota. John graduated from the University of Wisconsin on June 20 and was recognized by the University for outstanding scholar. Mrs Carroll Meyer 39 Dies After Heart Attack

Mrs Carroll Meyer aged 39 died at home south of Chester Monday morning at 3 30 o clock from a heart attack. Survived by husband Carroll and two daughters Carol Ann eight and Jeanette Marie four, mother Mrs Clara V Henline of Chenoa, two sisters and two brothers, plus nieces and nephews. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm at the Chester Methodist Church with Rev A Harold Sparks officiating. Burial Pleasant Hill Cemetery Lime Springs. Pallbearers named. Verlie Meyer, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Hiram L. Henline, born in Chenoa October 14 1912, married Carroll F Meyer October 8 1942. They lived in Fertile and Garner before moving to Chester three years ago. She was active in church and community affairs and had suffered a heart ailment the past three years.

MYF TO DISCUSS BOY GIRL RELATIONSHIPS

Tom Williams Undergoes Surgery After Horse Kick

Tom Williams of northeast of Lime Springs was kicked in the stomach by a horse while caring for his horses Friday afternoon. Taken by ambulance to the hospital at Cresco Friday night, he underwent surgery. His condition remains nervous.

Frequent Rains Disrupt Harvests and Wind Hits Farms

Farmers report enough rain for now but fear excess may persist, hindering drying and hay. A Tuesday night downpour, high humidity, and oppressive heat complicate fieldwork. A midnight wind felled three cottonwood trees on the Lovell (Em lyn Williams) farm near the cemetery. At Vernon, a twister damaged a concrete block lumber drying shed, deposit ing a roof into the Turkey river. A large tree toppled at the H. J. Sallabury farm, smashing the porch roof.

Fire of 1687 Destroys Gage's Wagon Shop

The fragment notes a 1687 blaze that obliterated Gage's Wagon Shop on the corner next to Muller's Hardware. It recalls the site being occupied by Muller's Hardware afterward and mentions a Tankerie nearby.
