Elma Youth Dies in Howard County Car Crash
Robert Fangman 18 of Elma dies after a 1954 Chevrolet left Highway No. 9, rolled into a ditch near Cresco. Death ruled instantaneous from a severe skull fracture by Howard County Medical Examiner Dr. F. L. Klingle Jr. The crash marks the county's first traffic fatality of 1965. Funeral held at Immaculate Conception Church Elma with burial Calgary Cemetery. Survived by parents Quentin and unknown Fangman siblings and extended family.

Boys State Proves Enlightening Experience in Government
Report by Jeff Klomp on the Hawkeye Boy's State at Camp Dodge Grimes Iowa where 770 youths formed two parties the Federalist and Nationalist. The Federalists won a landslide governor race with Tom Shives and the author served as state senator on the Ways and Means Committee. The week included caucuses elections tours and a capitol visit.

Summer Story Hour At Public Library
Starting next Wednesday June 30 the public library will host a weekly story hour for area children each Wednesday at 10 am. Experienced high school helpers Pat Jones Connie Robinson and Marsha Barclay assist. Children may check out books during sessions. About 45 grade school kids have signed up with some logging over 10 books. Sign up remains open at the library before the August 14 closing date. Library hours are Monday Wednesday 2 5 pm Tuesday Thursday 7 9 pm and Saturday 1 5 pm.

Warm spell ends as heavy rain breaks dry spell
The past week saw warmer days including Saturday and Monday reaching up to 85. A 2 inch rain Sunday preceded frequent showers Tuesday with 0.5 inch in the morning and 0.75 inch later. Large hail fell in Lime Springs during an evening storm. Vir and Mrs Darrel Mensink bought Lena Vrieze’s Cherry Grove home. Vrieze heads to Flagstaff to join daughter and husband. Household goods sale set for Tuesday, June 29 at 1:30 prior to departure.

Services for Mrs. Leo Kerr At Granger Methodist Church
Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. J L Kerr 59 of Granger after a lengthy illness. Born Alma Marguerite Flummer in Spring Valley Minnesota she married James Leo Kerr October 31 1923. Surviving are husband daughter Leone Walker Cresco three granddaughters and a brother George Plummer St Ansgar. Burial Granger Cemetery.

Sister Brother Join Marines in Dual Enlistments
Donna Snow daughter of Mr and Mrs James Snow enlists in the Women’s Marine Corps. She departs for Minneapolis then Parris Island for six weeks basic training and four weeks business school. The two year active and one year reserve enlistment follows Harmony High School graduation. Her brother Merlin Mahlenburg also enlisted after graduation May 27 and reports to the San Diego Recruiting Depot with training at San Diego and Camp Pendleton.

Lime Springs pool enrollments near 500 for a ten lesson program as 459 are registered in the second week. The largest group is Elma with 126, Lime Springs and Chester each around 120, LeRoy 110, and Riceville 103 with about 50 more expected before completion.
