Funeral of Edward Hoopman 90 Held at Cresco Church

Funeral services for Edward A Hoopman 90 of Cresco former Howard county auditor and Cresco city clerk who died June 10 were held at Cresco Methodist church June 3. Burial was in Oak Lawn cemetery Cresco. Hoopman born May 15 1870 in Amsterdam Wisconsin moved to Lime Springs 1870 taught school butter maker meat market owner and operator prior to entering public service. He survived seven children eight grandchildren five great grandchildren and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife Sophia and six brothers.

Ethiopian student Ephraim Isaac to speak at St. Paul Lutheran

Ephraim Isaac of Addis Ababa, a theological student and musician, will lecture at St. Paul Lutheran Church Lime Springs Tuesday June 28 at 6 PM. Ten New Buses Ordered By How-Winn Dist

Howard-Winneshiek Community school board on June 13 approved buying 10 new buses from School Bus Sales Waterloo at 31 230 dollars. The fleet includes six 48 passenger units two 54 passenger units and two 73 passenger pusher type units bringing total district buses to 34 next year. Chassis will be purchased later with four Chevrolets two Dodges two Fords and two Internationals. Bus driver salaries set at 120 dollars monthly plus a 50 dollar bonus for starting and completing the year. Custodian salaries fixed at 3300 dollars per year with 100 dollars per year of service up to four years and a maximum of six years.

Hams to Contest In Field Day At Camp Sat Sun

Cresco Amateur Radio Club holds Field Day Saturday and Sunday at Kiwanis Cabin south of Cresco along the Turkey River. Sixteen hams contact states and stations over 24 hours to test emergency gear and power, with visitors welcome throughout the event.

Insurance adjustors for four fire policies settled on the Lime Springs Public School fire loss last Thursday. The total amount is 50041.68, with 42041.68 allocated to the building and 8000 to the contents.

Voters in Riceville join a slate of 14 candidates for a five member school board and treasurer in the new district with eight polling sites. Districts one through five list nominees, including unopposed Treasurer candidate Dr T G Walker and several director contenders such as Earl Grace Paul Gaffey and Ron Owman. The election determines terms spanning from one to three future elections.

Bids Seen On New St Joseph Hospital in Cresco

Frank D. Elwood, president of the Friends of St Joseph Mercy Hospital, said bids received last Wednesday for the 42 bed St Joseph Hospital were in line with anticipated costs. The project is expected to cost about 950000 with five bids on general and mechanical contracts and four on electrical installations to be reviewed before awards.

Madison Wisconsin based Helen M Shea daughter of Mr and Mrs William C Shea of Lime Springs Iowa wed Loren John Hoffbeck son of Mr and Mrs Roy Hoffbeck of Big Stone City South Dakota on June 18 at Assumption Church Cresco. Rev Phillip Schmidt officiated. Attendants included Anne Shea Barbara Hoffbeck and Willis Hoffbeck with ushers Paul Rhea and Robert Hoffbeck. Reception for 100 followed.
