Merle Stockdale Family Farm Near York Minnesota

This feature profiles Merle Stockdale his wife Ilene and their children at York Minnesota six miles north of Lime Springs They farm 140 acres including 80 acres rented from Jake Heb Merle owns sixty acres purchased before he entered the Navy He returned in 1947 to farm on a small scale built a herd of Holstein cows and now yields about 100 hogs annually He studies agricultural training in Wyhoff under the GI program Ilene Halvorson Stockdale nurse in a Duluth hospital since 1941 They married Christmas Day 1942 in Duluth They have son Sheldon born 1944 a daughter Sharon born 1948 and live on the farm where Merle serves as district clerk Sheldon attended York School and Merle pursued Navy and seafaring work before settling back to farming with leather craft and sewing as hobbies.

Donald Kapka at Legion Boys' State

Donald Kapka son of Mr and Mrs Ronald Kapka was sent by Lloyd L Horton Post No 545 Lime Springs to the Boys State at Camp Dodge near Grimes Town. He reports an enjoyable week among 720 fine youths learning citizenship and government. He was named city marshal and played as outfielder on Lime Springs' softball team which won the Boys State softball title.

Obituary of Hugh H Hughes 75 at Logansport Indiana

Hugh H Hughes 75 died June 4 1950 at St Josephs Hospital Logansport Indiana after a long heart illness. Born July 18 1874 in Bristol Minnesota he lived in the area and worked as a salesman for International Harvester in Monticello Indiana. Surviving are his widow Stella Mar Mikesell mother in law Mrs Hannah Huge Lime Springs Iowa and four nephews two nieces. Funeral services were held June 7 at Monticello with Rev Herman Mirks officiating and burial in Riverview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Gooxden William Hallal Herbert Russell Ben Cain Emory Purlis and Pat Patterson.

Silage Day Draws 1100 At County Experimental Farm

Attendees from James Shovuriker to Donna Brockmeyer gathered at the County Experimental Farm for Silage Day.
