Fireplace Built in Brown Park Sparks Community Use

Brown Park now features a stone fireplace built by Dan Ekapler of Cresco under the Lime Springs Club direction. Completed Wednesday after about four days, the hand headed stones rest on a fourteen inch foundation with an ash box below the firebox. The open top firebox, sheet iron cover, and five by five foot base invite picnics and weiner roasts as autumn picnics peak.

Klomp Case Bound Over to Grand Jury

James Klomp, 20, bound over to the grand jury after a preliminary hearing before Justice E. Farnsworth in Cresco for leaving the scene of an accident on the Chester bridge Saturday June 8. He is free on a $500 bond. Witness Kenneth Gnada and Highway Patrolman Goelsch testified. Klomp was taken into custody by Sheriff Haven after driving to Le Roy. Klomp lives with his parents on a farm northeast of Lime Springs.

Howard Center Schoolmates elected officers at Cresco reunion

A. J. Evans was re elected president for the seventh straight year at the Howard Center Schoolmates Association Eighth annual reunion held at the old schoolhouse near Cresco. Mrs. Laur E. Shafer was chosen secretary and Carl H. Thayer treasurer. A second gathering with a picnic dinner and songs followed at Kessel Park Cresco with attendees from Iowa and adjacent states. Also reported were several marriage licenses and a severe bull attack on Ed Ness near Greenleafton with Bert Thomas and a pitchfork rescue.

The Fighting 69th at Lime Springs Theater Next Weekend

A period drama will be shown at Lime Springs Theater next Saturday and Sunday portraying the Fighting 69th and Father Duffy with James Cagney Pat OBrien and George Brent in an all male cast. The production serves as a wartime preachment against war highlighting courage and valor amid WWI.

Miss Alice Mode and K Herbert Iverson were united in marriage at Mrs B M Chesebrough home with Rev C F Perron officiating. The ceremony featured solos and duets, pink and white decor, and a reception, with out of town guests including Howard Lubbers, Jean Lubbers, Donna Williams, and Stockdale from Chester. The couple dined later at Clemmer's Cafe in Cresco.
