On June 5 Colonel Johnston conducted a public sale in Jacksonville Township for an improved 148 acre farm with tenant on the place. Only two bidders active. William Sargent of Jacksonville Township bid 36.60 an acre, a low result amid hopes for rising prices tied to ongoing New Deal era farm prosperity.

Ar and Mrs L R Williams drove to Sioux City then through the Black Hills of South Dakota. They toured Vermillion Yankton Lake Andes Chamberlain Murdo Sturgis Spearfish Deadwood Hill City Sylvan Lake Needles Game Lodge Hot Springs and two Indian reservations Pine Ridge and Rosebud. The eighteen hundred mile trip included Petrified Forest Battemount Sanitarium and a 90 degree spring pool. They returned via Holy Springs New Hampton. June 30 Last Day To Pay Old Age Pension
Howard county treasurer Frieda G Lauck warns that June 30 is the final day to pay the old age assistance tax and to credit the per capita tax of 32 on total poll taxes. The Iowa legislature extended delinquency for property taxes to July 1 and added a penalty of 1 percent per month on the old age tax after that date. The assembly also removed the offset of the old age tax against poll taxes for street and road purposes effective July 1.

Twelfth Howard County Fair plans in final shaping
Thursday will be Lime Springs Day again as the Lime Springs Band returns for the twelfth Howard County Fair. Organizers expect bigger budgets with more premiums exceeding four thousand dollars and added classes. Exhibitors are urged to enter early for space while commercial exhibitors have taken three accounts. The Free Act program expands with new acts from Northwest state fairs and nightly reviews with costume changes. Three afternoons of horse racing offer substantial purses and two running races daily. Auto racing contracts with Minnesota Dirt Track Association promise at least eight entries. Baseball games, daily band music, and extensive improvements to the fair grounds are planned.

Accident near Davis Corners injures woman
Mrs. M J Goodrich of Strawberry Point Iowa escaped serious injury after a car door opened and she was dragged along the pavement east of Davis Corners Friday night. She suffered severe burns to her left arm and legs and severe shock, and was taken to Cresco hospital.
