Chester Centennial Draws Largest Crowds in Town History
Weather cooperated as Chester celebrated its Centennial and Old Settlers' event with a long parade of over 100 entries. Old-time themes mixed with modern floats drew crowds, with awards given for riding units, pony hitch, steam engines, floats, costumes, and kiddie entries. State Senator Frank D. Elwood urged keeping young people in Iowa, while Albright's Attractions provided circus acts and food stands kept visitors entertained. An extra history edition and a community card of thanks closed the celebration.
