Iron ore washing plant moved to Cherry Grove site

Hanna Mining Co plans to relocate its iron ore washing plant from Spring Valley 4% miles south to a new site two miles south of Cherry Grove. Construction begins mid July with operations to start May 15, 1965 and a 9 year expected life for the new plant.

Services Held for Albert Billman 93 Long-Time Lime Springs Resident

Albert Billman 93 a longtime resident of Lime Springs Iowa died last Wednesday at Cresco Hospital He was born December 3 1870 in Livingston County Illinois and spent most of his life in Iowa He married Minnie Simdom in 1898 who preceded him in death Surviving are five children and a large line of descendants Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery Lime Springs with Zachow Funeral Home in charge A card of thanks followed. At the June Jubilee in Laneboro Minn Harry Kitchen of Lime Springs placed second in the heavy division of the tractor pulling contest with four contestants in the class under 10000 Ths.

Ohio Woman Sentenced for Check Forgery in Two Iowa Cases

Jean Maxine Marlowe 25 of Cincinnati appeared before Judge G B Rich ter in Howard County District Court and was sentenced to up to ten years in the Rockwell City women's reformatory. The offense involved three forged Cresco checks dated February 22 1964 totaling 37.79 signed under a fictitious name. She was brought to Cresco June 9 from Rockwell City and returned June 11 by Sheriff Percy Haven. A second ten year sentence awaits for a Clarke County Iowa case from last winter.

Howard-Winneshiek School Board postpones Harmony parent meeting

A special school board session on June 15 1964 postponed a planned parent meeting for Harmony district residents. The board also approved hiring Bros Inc to retake and replace parts of Crestwood High boiler for 3508 dollars and planned Friday interviews with five applicants for the high school principal vacancy left by Warren L Proctor.

Mr. and Mrs. Gareth Stockdale of northeast Chester welcome David Lee born June 15 at Tweeten Memorial Hospital Spring Grove MN weighing 7 lbs 12 oz. Mrs. Stockdale is Verna Casey. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Dodd of Lime Springs greet Brenda Ellen born June 6 at Mercy Hospital Cresco, their first child. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Miller of Lime Springs welcome a daughter born Sunday at Cresco hospital weighing 6 lbs 7% oz.

Petition of Intervention Joins School Rd Suit Against Supt Baker

A petition of intervention filed June 10 joins with the Howard Winneshiek Community School District in its suit against Superintendent Russell J Baker. About 260 petitioners from Lime Springs and Chester, represented by Donohue Wilkins & Donohue, seek a declaratory judgment that Baker's contract is not binding. The action accompanies a counterclaim by Baker, amended June 12 to include the intervention. The case questions the contract’s validity and whether efforts to avoid disclosure and a jury trial are proper. Judge visits Cresco June 24 and July 15 29 and August 12 26, with a maximum delay to October possible.

Preaching Mission Opens Sunday in Cherry Grove EUB

A week long preaching mission led by Rev Willard Stocker runs June 21 to 28 at the Cherry Grove EUB Church with daily services at 8 p m except Saturday. Morning worship starts at 10 a m and open church hours invite prayer and attendance.

An open house commemorates the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Crouch of Chester Iowa. The event is at Cherry Grove Community Hall Cherry Grove Minnesota on Sunday June 2 from 2:00 to 5:00. No invitations are sent. all friends and relatives are invited to attend.
