Alice Goodman daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Goodman Lime Springs selected for the second Hawkeye Girls State at Grinnell to be held June 19 to 25 on Grinnell College campus. Miss Goodman a Lime Springs High School junior sponsored by Lloyd L Morton unit 545 American Legion Auxiliary, participates in basketball softball glee club and plays. Two hundred forty girls from nine districts attend this year. The event aims to teach government and citizenship with nurses and a physician on call.

The Howard County Fair announces 27 quality horses entered for races August 8 to 11. Tuesday offers a 2.24 Pace with seven horses and a 2.18 Trot with six. Wednesday adds a 2.24 Trot and a 2.18 Pace. Each race pays 500 dollars and includes three heats with vaudeville between events.
