Delegation Leaves for State 4-H Convention Band Trip
Almost forty Lime Springs band members joined the Waterloo Band Festival last Thursday with ten cars transporting the group. Twenty four bands paraded through Waterloo, drawing about 15,000 spectators and culminating with a mass group of over 800 musicians. The Lime Springs band featured the youngest group and a high girl percentage, aided by beginners classes led by Band Supt. Hendrickson.

Walter Kessler Saratoga man takes own life
Funeral services for Walter Kessler 22 were held at the family home and Belmont Cemetery after he ended his life around 9 pm Tuesday by taking strychnine. He had driven from the farm near Saratoga to Riceville, then returned screaming that he had taken poison. Coroner and Dr Hastings investigated. an empty bounce bottle with strychnine was found in the car. Relatives note persistent despondency. survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs Theodore Kessler and several siblings.

The Howard county 4-H girls held Rally Day at Cresco High School with 102 girls and 89 parents and friends. Activities included registration, singing, memory and music contests, a play, a 6:00 picnic supper, and an evening program featuring dramatizations, Russian life notes, and officer installations.

Silos gain ground as county crops shift and rains ease
In Cresco O nts area fields are plowed for new crops while ensilage trials fill silos with sweet clover. Corn stands 12 to 15 inches, expected knee high by the Fourth amid June rain and cool nights. Golf results include Carl Ashby 118 and N A Bradley 122 on a rain soaked course as marriage licenses are issued to pairs including Richard Kalishek Agnes Bouska and several other Cresco area couples.

A motion by Jones with Hughes seconded authorized the water committee to contract painting the tank interior. meeting adjourned with Lt Johnson and Clerk Cray noted. Cows killed by westbound train reported near the freight wreck site.

Death of Dr C R Laraway in Los Angeles
Word comes of the May 31 death of Dr C R Laraway of Los Angeles California after angina and a leg amputation followed by embolisms. Born August 20 1876 he practiced in Lime Springs and is survived by wife Janet and two children Jane and Charles. Funeral June 3 at Forest Lawn with Masonic rites.

Thomas Frankson Dies After Tree Fall at 69
Thomas Frankson of St. Paul Minnesota died at Bethesda hospital from injuries after a tree branch fell during a storm. He was born in York township educated at Lime Springs Decorah and University of Minnesota law. He served in the Minnesota legislature 1911 to 1913 and as lieutenant governor for six years. Surviving are his wife two daughters and one son. Funeral held in St. Paul with interment there. He hoped to attend the 1940 Alumni Reunion expressing fond memories of Lime Springs High School.
