Chester Set for Old Settlers Picnic Saturday Entertainment

Chester will host its Old Settlers Picnic on Saturday June 14 with a Grand Parade at 10:30 a.m. and a full schedule of prizes for parade entries. Lime Springs Band and Wykoff German Band perform. Amateur Contest at 1 p.m. acts at 1:30 and 8 p.m.. Bob Morris Troupe and The Musical Chapmans perform. Rob erts & Co. magic show. Kiddies Parade at 3:30 p.m. and street sports with cash prizes. Horse Pull at 7 p.m. features over and under 3200 lb divisions. Dance with Hits and Missus closes the night at Community Hall. Food and midway rides by Moser-Rundle Shows.

Mrs John Zotika Jr won 25 dollars at the Lime Theatre Bank Night drawing held last Wednesday evening June 4. The event is sponsored weekly by local businessmen including Interstate Power Co and Farmers Co-op with a long list of sponsors and supporting shops in Lime Springs.

Jorgenson Tractor Destroyed By Fire

A 1937 John Deere tractor burned on the farm of Mrs. Gunder Jorgenson north of York Minnesota around 1 30 p m Monday. Fire started after spilled fuel on the engine ignited as Vernon Jorgenson tried to back the tractor away. The shed housing the oil tanks burned quickly. Lime Springs Fire Department arrived but could not save the machine. The tractor, with rubber tires and a cam cultivator, was the family’s only plow power. The family thanks the Lime Springs department for its prompt response.

Lime Springs Band Chooses Queen For North Iowa Festival

Lime Springs Band selected Miss Myrna Laue, a 1962 graduate and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laue, as its queen. The group of 27 musicians and five twirlers performed in Mason City during the North Iowa Band Festival, marching and concerting amid about 83 towns' bands and a massed parade. Directed by G Dale Canfield, the Lime Borings band represented the town in the event.

Swimming classes at Cresco pool begin Tuesday

Children from Lime Springs can join the Cresco Pool program for the second year. Classes start Tuesday June 17 with a bus leaving City Hall at 9 15 under driver Norm Robinson. The One Ota Club sponsors the chaperoning with Mrs Geneva Garrison and Mrs Robert Evans. Cresco reserves pool time for Lime Springs children 10 00 to 12 00 every Tuesday until further notice for beginners and intermediates. Registration is at Dr Jones office.

Marital Nuptials For Voves And Stockdale In Ostrander

Anne Mae Voves and Donald Stockdale exchanged vows in a single ring ceremony at 1 30 p m Sunday June 8 at the Ostrander Lutheran Parsonage Ostrander Minnesota. The bride wore a navy blue suit with white accessories and yellow and white carnation bouquet. Sister Celeste Voves assisted wearing a light blue suit with yellow white corsage. Best man was Marlin Cheney. The couple plan to reside in Le May Iowa. Mrs Nelle Wheeler reports her husband has left Korea and is due home late June.

4-H Boys Of County Enjoy Conservation Day Thursday

About 100 Howard County 4-H members attended a first annual Conservation Day on Thursday June 5 featuring tree planting forage crop tours contouring and gun safety demonstrations. Winners in forage crop identification included Wm Martinek Roger Stevenson and Charles Buhr with George Elchmeer also scoring high. Local leaders and sponsors provided meals cash prizes totaled 1000 for contouring, and praise for a repeat event next year.

Mr and Mrs Emmett McGrane Celebrate Golden Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Emmett McGrane of Chester observed their 50th wedding anniversary with a dawn Mass at St. Stephen s Church officiated by Rev Gregory Hemesath. A noon dinner for 40 followed, with a reception from 2 to 5 pm and a community hall dance in the evening. The couple, married at St Francis Catholic Church, Dyersville, have four children and seven grandchildren. Mrs McGrane, formerly Elizabeth Ostwinkle, grew up in Germany and Iowa.

NATCHERY GAME BIRD PRODUCTION GOING WELL

At the state game farm near Boone, 3500 baby pheasant chicks and 1500 quail are hatched weekly. Over the next weeks 9000 pheasants and 9500 quail will be distributed to 42 sportsmen groups. Pheasant hatching ends June 21 and quail ends July 18 as birds are raised to ten to twelve weeks before release on farms.
