4 H Girls Club Rally Day in Cresco High School

Howard County 4 H Girls Club and Women’s Rally Day is set for Tuesday June 14 at Cresco High School Little Theatre. Officers will be elected, the Better Groomed Girl contest featured, with guest speaker Mrs Omer Gasser and a luncheon planned by committee chairs. Various club performances and a foreign country guest promise a lively program. rural women clubs urged to attend. Services for Frank E. Fishbaugher Held Saturday At Brethren Church

Frank Edward Fishbaugher age 57 died suddenly Wednesday afternoon June 1 at his home west of Harmony after heart trouble. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Brethren Church east of Greenleaf with Rev. Alvin Kinter officiating. Surviving are his wife Susie Chick of Lime Springs, daughter Florence Ashton of Harmony, Minn., and son Let at home, brothers George of Bristol and Glen of Winona, mother Mrs John Fishbaugher of Bristol, and three grandchildren. Local attendees included Mr and Mrs Gearld Murphy and several others.

Local O E S hosts Friendship Night with about 25 members of Utopia Chapter attending at Cresco. The program featured a humorous skit The Seventh Degree the Friendship Scroll presented to Gladys Powers and an Old Fashioned Style Revue led by Margaret Vander Bie with solos and duets, followed by a social hour. Mr and Mrs Robert Clark and others attended Upper Iowa University graduation ceremonies the same evening where Mrs Zelda Brockmeyer earned Magna cum laude and the W J Deickman award.

Unusual softball event features married and single men riding Ozark donkeys in a ding dong battle at Lime Springs on June 20. Sponsored by the American Legion Department on the operations of Subversive persons and agencies, under White House orders.

DDT Still Important in Farm Fly Control

Harold Gunderson of Iowa State College says DDT remains a key aid in farm fly control outside dairy barns. It is most effective when sprayed inside buildings and on surfaces where flies gather, and around animal pens and yards. He cautions DDT and other insecticides supplement sanitation, not replace it. Manure should be hauled to fields or treated, and outdoor toilets kept treated. dairy use is advised against.

All-States Picnic on Mile-Long Table at Ontario

Ontario artist J Cray depicts the mile long picnic table set on Euclid Avenue in Ontario where the All-States Picnic will host up to 100000 visitors. June 18 is the event date with fourteen buses to shuttle guests along the avenue. A Gay Nineties Show and square dancing are planned along with large squid refreshments and 25000 badges. The Mexican fiesta returns, and Mr and Mrs Cray plan a summer visit starting around June 20.

Fish Fry Tuesday Night At Lime Springs Big Success

About 110 sportsmen attended the Lime Springs Fish and Game Club fish fry at the Legion Hall. Roughly 75 pounds of wall eyed Pike were eaten, prepared by Lowell Reinhart of Creaco and Kennard Baer of the LaCrosse federal wildlife service. Frefich fried potatoes and coffee were served. Three reels of fishing trip film were shown by Les Hilton Dr Gallagher and Herb Hauser with narration.

Centennial Homecoming Promises Three Days in Spring Valley

Spring Valley prepares for its annual American Legion Homecoming and Centennial Celebration on June 13 14 15 with rides for children donkey softball a parade fireworks and a dance. Attendees are urged to wear soft fabric dresses with full skirts and shirred gathers.

Vacation Bible School Planned At Methodist Church

The first annual Daily Vacation Bible School at the Methodist Church will run Monday through Friday June 13 to June 17 starting at 9:00 a.m. The program, open to all youngsters, covers four age groups with varied courses, crafts, music, and new hymnals.
