Band Off to Waterloo Today for Band Jubilee

An all alumni group gathers for a Waterloo jubilee with an outside contingent. Compiled by Joshua Williams and Henry Samson, this list names many graduates from 1889 to 1928 across Minnesota Iowa Wisconsin and beyond, detailing homes and class years. The long roster notes one visitor from Tacoma Washington and highlights full attendance from the 1919 to 1927 cohorts.

Cassidy siblings earn master and bachelor degrees at South Dakota

Miss Agnes Cassidy received the Master of Arts in English with a history minor for a five year program at the University of South Dakota. Her thesis on Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus earned a modern scholarly credit as she heads to the University of Colorado for PhD studies. Carl Cassidy’s sister was among the last of twelve graduates. a grandson, Charles Isackson of Webster, South Dakota, earned an A B in journalism.

Walter Meighan Dies Suddenly at 58 in 1939

Walter W Meighan son of Edward and Mary Meighan born July 4 1880 on a farm near Lime Springs grew up nearby lived in Chester 1911 ran a meat market 1918 moved to Lime Springs died June 2 1939 aged 58 10 26 funeral June 4 Larsons Funeral Chapel Pleasant Hill cemetery. Cresco Senior Daphne Davis Salutatorian and Honors Recipient

Daphne Davis daughter of Mr and Mrs B H Davis of Lime Springs is Cresco High School Salutatorian in a class of 74. She received the American Legion Citizenship Award, was named the most representative girl and the girl with the most charming personality and courteous, member of Cresco High typing team to state contest, plans to attend American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Epworth League bake sale at Lime Springs City Hall Saturday June 10 proceeds fund League delegates to Clear Lake Institute July 17.

Golden wedding celebrated at Cresco with large family

The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. James N. Smith at their Cresco home Tuesday May 30 drew 27 relatives and friends for open house. A purse funded by 93 visitors supported a town gift. The week also brought several marriage licenses to local and nearby couples across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Gene Krieger, 10, injured his left arm in a wrist fracture while jumping rope near Mabel, while Dr. P E Offilghter and wife planned a six week East trip for a World’s Fair tour. Judge Goheen sentenced Glenn Mortenson in Cresco district court on Monday June 5.

Howard County Fair Plans At Cresco For 1939

Howard county fair officials announce Cresco dates August 31 to September 2 with Ernie Young revue and seven acts. Two days of harness racing and two days of baseball from foreign and local teams. West Bros. carnival, fireworks first and last nights, auto races Sunday, entry day August 30. C. C. Nichols secretary. Also notes on local arrests and a probate jail case in Cresco.

Lime Springs Band to Join Waterloo Jubilee Festival

The Lime Springs Band will participate in a full day Band Jubilee in Waterloo on June 8 with 24 bands from the region. A tentative schedule lists arrival, medal distribution, parades, church dinners, continuing concerts, and a massed band demonstration at the Waterloo Baseball Stadium starting at 6:30 p.m.

Reunion notes recall Dan Davis quartet at Lime Springs

At a Lime Springs Presbyterian service Dan Davis, hampered by a cold, led a quartet with Anna Mae Davis on piano joined by Hugh Morris, Thomas Price, and Ben Davis Sr. to perform More Than Conquerors Are We. The Class of 1918 and 1899 attendees traveled from afar, while visitors commented on growing freight traffic and the absence of street games at the 1939 Home-coming.
