Memorial Day Observed in Lime Springs Community

Memorial Day observances under the Lloyd L. Horton Post of the American Legion included a grave side service at Sadersdal Cemetery at 8 30 and a 10 30 a m program in the Lime Springs school gym. The event featured a color guard, firing squad, school band, girls glee club, and a Memorial Day Address by Tom Murray of Cresco. A lifetime membership was awarded to Gordon Williams. A second ceremony at Pleasant Hill Cemetery and an event at Lidtke Park honored veterans who served at sea. The day concluded with a wreath at the boat dock and a winded but solemn procession.

Little Girl Narrowly Escapes Death In Car Backing Incident

A three year old boy started a car in reverse while his mother and sister were unloading groceries. The mother jumped into the back seat and turned off the ignition before the child’s head and arm could be crushed against the garage door jam. The child suffered a dented forehead and headache but attended Sunday School the next day. The car’s rear door bent and the front door handle broke.

Arrival of Baby Julie Ann Larsen in Riceville Hospital

Mr and Mrs Richard Larsen of Tural southeast Lime Springs welcomed a daughter, Julie Ann, born Monday June 4 at Riceville Hospital. She has three brothers. Word arrived that their son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs L J Hoffbeck of Greeneville Tennessee, became parents to a daughter, Joan Catherine May 30, weighing 7 lb 6 oz. Mrs Wm C Shea joined her son-in-law and daughter to Tennessee to meet the newborn granddaughter.

Pool Opens Friday If Weather Is Right

If warm enough the Lime Springs Pool will open Friday afternoon. Painting completed last weekend, water filling started by Manager Frank Lorenzo on Friday. Season tickets available at the pool or at designated business places. The Cresco Saddle Club postponed Trail Ride from Old Town east along the river. new moonlight ride with Wiener roast planned after a June 18 gathering at Norton Johnson’s. A June 24 ride will begin from Chester Southside Park. Mr Henry Wilkens returned from a three week trip to Seattle and Victoria with visits to Renton Wenatchee and Winnipeg. He reports good trout fishing and saw the World’s Fair. James Ellison son of Duane and Mrs. Ellison graduated June 1 1962 from Northwestern College Minneapolis. Ross Stevenson Lime Springs State Representative underwent surgery Tuesday at Methodist Hospital Rochester.

Voters Sparse in Monday Primary Across County

Monday's primary drew light interest with few county contests and extended term lengths reducing offices. Wet weather kept turnout down, with Howard County at about half the 1948 level. Republicans led with 759 ballots to 487 for Democrats. key races included Hickenlooper and Erbe renominated and Hughes winning Governor nomination.

Grand Opening of Lime Springs Locker Grocery Dept

This week marks the grand opening of the new Grocery Department at the Lime Springs Locker. A full line of groceries, standard drug items, meals and bakery goods are in stock. Proprietor Robert Walton remodeled the locker to include grocery shelving, meat counters and refrigerated cases with new lighting and flooring. Special weekend promos include free coffee and cookies Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. and a door prize drawing.

Town council revokes beer license and plans library project

The Springs Town Council revoked Rich ard Wilson's beer license and cigarette permit for a disorderly tavern. It authorized Marvey Moldt to obtain plans and costs for a town library building between the Town Hall and Post Office and approved remodeling of the Fire Station. The council also extended Milwaukee Road sidewalk construction time on Center Street amid recent rainy weather.
