Pvt Alvin Mihm Returns To Action After Wounds

Pvt Alvin Mihm son of Aleck Mihm of Lime Spas returned to action with the 21st Infantry Regiment after sustaining shoulder and calf wounds from mortar fire in Korea on April 25. In a May 18 letter home he described frontline conditions, his promotion to squad leader with a 50 caliber machine gun, and hopes to return home in October. He had previously served in World War II and Korea, with recalls from reserves ending in 1950.

Oneota Club Enters Nationwide Contest

The Oneota Club of Lime Springs enters the Build Freedom With Youth contest, a nationwide $25,000 prize in cooperation with the General Federation of Women's Clubs and Kroger. The aim is to foster youth involvement and civic dedication by engaging teens and adults in community work that supports American democracy. Swine Vaccination School Set For June 13

A swine vaccination and sanitation school led by Dr Fred Schaefer of Des Moines is scheduled for June 13 at the Farm Bureau conference room starting at 9 p m. The program covers swine diseases, diagnosis, control, prevention, and instruction for issuing layment permits for swine growers using virus in their own hog vaccination. The session is for those who requested it, with a few others welcome to attend.

Lime Springs Town Band Rehearsals Begin June 15

Attention musicians in Lime Springs area. Opening rehearsal at the school gym at 8 PM Friday June 15. Mr Mervin Lysing of Cresco will direct the Lime Springs Band and offer private lessons. Band concerts to follow on Saturday nights starting June 16.

Missing Soldier Letters Give Hope to Croxtons

Mr and Mrs Omer Croxton received a War Department telegram that their son George R Croxton was missing in action on May 18 1951. Days later a letter from George described his escape and hospitalization in Pusan Korea after three days hiding in a cave. He stated troops were unsure whether to send him to Japan or back to his company.

Harold Buys Top Animal At North Iowa Shorthorn Sale

The North Iowa Shorthorn Sale in Mason City featured W G Harold of Lime Springs purchasing Corrimony Senator, a Joan son of Corimony Emperor, for 1000 dollars. Other top prices included Sandoon Perfect at 98500 and Red Duchess selling for 495, with 22 bulls totaling 11745 and 13 females 4525 dollars, averaging about 465 per head.

Meritorious Unit Commendation for 287th Signal Co in Korea

The 287th Signal Company of the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade received the Meritorious Unit Commendation on May 13 for meritorious conduct during six months from August 1950 to February 1952 in support of combat operations in Korea. Sgt Harold C Wheeler of Lime Springs is named among those commended. The unit installed and operated signal communications at Inchon during the assault landing and provided communications for the brigade, the 1st Marine Division, wave units, and the 3rd Logistical Command. An internal wire system was set up at Inchon stockade, linking Inchon to Yongdongpo by telephone.

Drivers License Fee Hikes to 150 in July

Des Moines officials announce a fee increase to 150 dollars for all new and renewed drivers licenses and school driving permits effective July 5.
