Memorial Day observances honor fallen heroes in Lime Springs

Rev Robert J May urged deeds to honor the fallen, asking if their sacrifices were in vain. Memorial services at Pisani and Sodersdal Cemeteries featured wreaths, taps, and choir performances. American Legion and Auxiliary provided crosses and miniature tributes. community bands performed.

Start Swimming Lessons June 18 At L S Pool

The 1963 program at Lime Springs Municipal Swimming Pool begins June 18 with lessons for area children led by instructors Bill Mertens Jean Gassett Martha Barclay and Patty Stevens. The pool opened to the public as temperatures rose to 91 degrees with daily hours 130 to 430 pm and 700 to 200 am.

Mr and Mrs Richard Alling of Des Moines Iowa announce the birth of a son born May 29. The infant weighs 7 pounds 2 ounces and has been named Friseo Marke. The baby’s parents are Gaylord and the newborn’s mother’s family.

Lime Springs Centennial schedules printed for four day event

Folders outlining daily events for the Lime Springs Centennial have been printed and will be available in focal business places. The program includes Registration Day, Visitation Day with tours and exhibits, Parade Day with style show and whisker judging, a historical pageant, a church service, dinner, and a horse show with antique displays. Tickets sold at Centennial Headquarters and after Thursday night program at the Gymnasium.

Eilers in Accident as Brakes Fail

Kenneth Ever of Cedar Rapids took Mrs Glen Eller and Norma home from Allin Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a Sunday Denver Iowa crash when the Ealer car brakes failed. Norma needed stitches and facial work. Amy Eller remained hospitalized with chest and leg injuries. Mrs Glen Eiler escaped with minor bruises.

Plan Barbecue and Kangaroo Court Dates Set by Local Clubs

A meeting of the Brothers of the Brush and Centennial Belles discussed a barbecue for June 18 at Brown Park or Futchen Ridge depending on weather. Kangaroo Court will run on June 7 14 and 21 with entertainment and appointed cops for each night. Details name several participants and judges, and a horse sow for Centennial Sunday June 30 at the Old Athletic Field.

First Kangaroo Court This Friday

The Brothers of the Brush will hold their first session of Kangaroo Court on Friday evening June 7. Attendance is limited to watch the Keystone Cops arresting unknown offenders. The judge passes sentence and the wardens carry out sentences. Entertainment will be provided by The Kitchen Klatter Band.

Weather Shifts to Warmer Nights After Rainy Weekend

Light Friday rain gave way to warmer conditions from Sunday onward. Nights turned mild, aiding pool use and outdoor activity for locals. Temperatures rose by about eight degrees daily, defying rain forecasts. Neil J. Carolan, son of Mr and Mrs T B Carolan of Lime, is noted in yearbook plans at Upper Iowa College.
