Funeral of John F. Mertens 86 Held in Cresco Church

John F. Mertens of Lime Springs died Monday afternoon at his son Myron’s home in Lime Springs at 1 30. Funeral services were held Wednesday June 5 at 2 p m at the First Congregational Church Cresco with Rev John A Nansen officiating. Burial followed at F and W Cemetery Farmersburg. Survivors include seven children twenty one grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Sylvester L. Houdek of Des Moines is noted among Phi Delta Kappa initiates at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls.

Lime Springs Pool Opens With Warm Weekend Test

About 80 youngsters braved 60 degree water Sunday to test Lime Springs Pool then sunbathed. By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures rose to about 85 degrees and the pool water felt much more comfortable. Season tickets selling well. family tickets rise to 12.00 after June 9, individuals up 50 cents. Red Cross swimming instruction begins June 17 after Vacation Bible School.

Bonita Cook and Lyle Ihns Wed at Elma Home

Bonita Tidgwell Cook daughter of Mr and Mrs Ward L Cook Elma and Lyle Keith Ihns son of Mr and Mrs Hermar Ihns Lime Springs were united in marriage Thursday afternoon at the bride s home. The double ring ceremony was performed by Dr Harold S Woolard Dean of Upper Town University Fayette where the bride is a student. A reception followed the wedding with a three tiered cake and a guest list including out of town relatives. The bride will graduate from Upper Iowa University Fayette in August and teach in Spring Valley Minnesota this fall. The groom works for Farmers Co operative Feed Co Lime Springs and they plan to live there.

Memorial Day Observed Quietly in Lime Springs

Memorial Day proceedings in Lime Springs featured the gym and cemetery programs with Robert Walton as master of ceremonies and Rev. Clifford Thaden giving the invocation. C. J. Anderson of Cresco delivered the address linking past wars to current threats, urging vigilance against communism and a stronger nation under liberty and justice. The event included a cemetery salute and service at Ladereal Lutheran Church and Cemetery, followed by homecoming notice for Victory School District 182 on June 22, inviting teachers, former students, and classmates to bring dishes for a picnic.

Otto Ladwigs Golden Wedding Open House Draws Crowd

About 250 relatives and friends attended the open house for Otto and Freuda Ladwig of Lime Springs, with a noon dinner at St Paul Lutheran Church and a four tier cake marked April 4 1907 Matt 19 56. A program featured songs readings and memories from grandchildren and relatives. Notable attendees traveled from Minnesota Iowa and Wisconsin, with a card of thanks from the couple.

Nellie Derr 80 Chester resident dies in Iowa

Nellie A. Derr aged 80 of Chester Iowa dies after illness in Charles City Hospital Funeral services were held June 3 1957 at United Lutheran Church Chester with Rev Elmer A Dalle officiating. Burial followed at Chester Hill Cemetery Pallbearers named Nels Christianson Freddie Baldwin Roy Winslow John Leslie Robert Maurer and Robert Freel She was born January 22 1877 at Cresco Iowa married Jacob Philip Derr January 1 1900 They farmed in Howard County moved to Chester about 20 years ago They had golden anniversary in 1950 Her husband died in 1952 She is survived by three sons and four daughters and ten grandchildren The family thanks friends neighbors and relatives for support during her illness and death
