Lime Springs High School Ranks 19th in Class

Lime Springs High School placed 19th among 87 schools in its city group and 75th among 261 high schools overall in Iowa academic tests. Senior class performed best, with top 2nd in Class C for English Correctness and Literature, and high rankings across grades. Peggy Roberts and Jack Rabenberg named top performers in Literature and General Science, eligible for State Contest.

Fish Fry and Rally Here Next Monday

A Lime Springs Sportsmen's Rally and Fish Fry is planned for next Monday June 10 at the Lime Springs Theater at 8 pm with moving pictures Fly Casting Picking Pets Blue Streak and musical numbers. Door prizes include a 410 repeating shotgun and a casting rod and reel. Dinner will be served at the Legion Hall after the theater program.

Saratoga Crow Hunt Sets Local Record In County

Saratoga hunters won 132 crows feet or eggs while Lime Springs scored 70 points. Both teams collected 32 eggs with 25 Lime Springs and 22 Saratoga participants. A county bounty of 17 dollars paid at ten cents per crow pair, aiding a planned dinner for the Saratoga party.

Pretty Candlelight Wedding Ceremony at York

Last Wednesday at 9 PM a candlelight wedding took place at Laetersdal Lutheran Church in York. Margaret Marie Jones married Albert Harnack of Lime Springs in a double ring ceremony officiated by Rev Prithjof Elde with musical selections by Marion Jones and Rev Elde. The bridal party wore aqua marine and peach tones, bouquets featured larkspur and snapdragons, and the couple received guests at a reception at the bride’s parents’ home before departing for a Black Hills honeymoon. The bride, a former teacher from St Paul and Winona Teachers College, is the daughter of J H Jones. the groom is son of Amil and Mrs Harnack.

Twelve Graduates Receive Diplomas at Lime Springs

Commencement ceremonies on Memorial Day filled the Lime Springs gymnasium, with Rev. Harry Poll of Austin Minnesota delivering the address. Twelve graduates received diplomas including Alta Elizabeth Jones and Mary Ellen Jones. Awards honored top scholars Wilma Brockmeyer and Peggy June Roberts among others.

Wilson Triumphs Over Gross by Seventeen Thousand Five Hundred

Governor candidate George A. Wilson wins the Republican nomination for a second term with a 17 500 vote margin while H R Gross carries Howard County by 122 votes. Lime Springs election results show multiple incumbents re nominated or defeated in county offices. Forest City votes total 414 with 359 Republican and 55 Democratic, compared with 1938 totals.
