Rally Day to Open Howard County 4 H Clubs June 12

County agent P N Payne announces the annual Rally Day will be held June 12 at the Cresco Library in Cresco with 1:00 PM registration. Wm C Shea will give the welcome, Mrs John P Evans will respond, and a one minute word picture of each club will be read at roll call. Officers will be installed and a song festival plus a music memory contest featured.

Yankees, Giants lead in Kitten Ball league standings

Team 4 undefeated at 2-0 leads the Men's kitten ball league with Team 1 at 1-0 and others at 0-1 or 1-0. Scores include Team 4 beating 2 4-2 and Team 3 beating 5 17-2. Schedule lists numerous upcoming matches, with captains named for each squad and proposed rule provisions.

Commencement Exercises Held Last Wednesday Eve

The 1935 Lime Springs High School class received diplomas on May 29 in the gym with Rev. Frank Court of Osage delivering the address. Fifteen graduates, including Margery Pixley as valedictorian and Glen Moor as salutatorian, heard music by the Girls Glee Club and solos by Dorothy Thomas and Edwin Price. diplomas were presented by Supt. Abner Hendrickson. Margery earned Waldorf College scholarship, Glen earned Waldorf and Luther College scholarships. Dorothy Thomas spoke at length about youth, while Margery and Glen received multiple awards and honors.

Celebrate Old Settlers at LeRoy Saturday

LeRoy will celebrate Old Settlers Saturday June 8 with a 10:00 A M start. Events include free acts, dancing girls, acrobatic car stunts, a flaming wall, and a fast speed run. Austin and LeRoy baseball teams meet at 2:30 P M for a purse. Bennett Greten orchestra plays at the Crystal ballroom. an old time dance follows in Odd Fellows Hall with Paul Larson’s band.

Second Diphtheria Treatment For Lime Springs Saturday

The second diphtheria immunization round will be offered this Saturday June 8 at Lime Springs High School from 8:30 to 12. About 206 children received the first dose last Saturday and will get the second dose now. A total of 400 were treated in Cresco. The campaign is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary with local doctors donating services. The full treatment costs seven cents per child.

Howard County Fair Postponed Amid World Fair

From the June 1 1803 Lime Springs Sun a note that the Howard County Fair has been postponed this year due to the World's Fair. 4-H Hustlers meet at Hope Lidtke home for songs and crafts

The Forest City 4-H Hustlers gathered Saturday at Hope Lidtke's house. They practiced Bohémiah Girl and 4-H songs, skipped the business meeting due to rain and small attendance, cut laundry bags for makers, and shared a delicious lunch hosted by the hostess.
