Lime Springs High School Graduates Ten In Class

The Lime Springs High School graduating class of ten received diplomas Thursday in a gymnasium ceremony. Rev L Bauman gave the invocation and Rev H Adix delivered the benediction. Robert Hamilton spoke on Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, stressing planning and character. Luella M Meyer was valedictorian. Phyllis Johnson and Norine McCaustland were salutatorians. Eleanor Tibball was honor student.

Rural Carrier Examination Open for Lime Springs Route 2

The U S Civil Service Commission announces an exam for Rural Route 2 in Lime Springs Iowa. Open to qualified U S citizens residing in the local post office area. Applications due June 23 1949 with appointment to follow by mailed admission cards. Salary on a 30 mile route is 2470 plus 2000 per year for each extra mile. shorter routes receive proportionate pay and vehicle equipment must be supplied by carriers. Women may apply, sex to be specified by appointing officers.

Tollef Borgan Dies Suddenly at Home Here Sunday Morning

Tollef A Borgan 66 of Lime Springs died at about 5 o'clock Sunday morning at his home from a cerebral hemorrhage. He had not been well since a severe pneumonia four years earlier. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the home and at Saetersdal Lutheran Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his wife and five children Olaf Foster Cole Hazel LaVonne and Gaylord. Pallbearers were Harry Terbeest Reuben Lange Sever Ivers Theodore Ivers Arne Pelland and Co W Sherwine.

Services Held For Mary Necas At St Stephen's

Funeral services were held Friday May 27 at St Stephen's Parish Chester Iowa for Mary M Necas 53 who died May 24 at Mercy hospital Cresco after a severe stroke. Father G F Hemesath supervised burial at National Bohemian Cemetery between Protivin and Spilsville Winneshiek County. She was born March 14 1896 in Skrdlovice Czechoslovakia and came to the United States in 1908. She married Frank Necas December 27 1913 at Newton Hampton Iowa and the couple farmed at Bassett and Elms Town before Lime Springs. Five children and five grandchildren survive along with six brothers and one sister.

Memorial Day tribute and art exhibit highlighted by Des Moines artist

Esther Williams of Des Moines, daughter of the Williamses of Lime Springs, showcased her paintings at Younkers room gallery in Des Moines May 2021. The exhibit covered cut and watercolor works. Williams discussed as a freelance artist in ceramics and book covers, with a notable watercolors tour and national recognition. A Memorial Day service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs featured the Lime Springs Band, a Glee Club, and address by Rev Leroy E Bauman. The ceremony included veterans’ rituals, prayers, and a color guard, with schoolchildren placing flowers on veteran graves and taps performed by student buglers.

E. B Burgardt announces sale of Burgaardt's Place to M. F Berner of Lime Springs who took possession Tuesday. Berner returns to business after disposing years ago and will be assisted by his son Howard. Burgardt and family will reside in the apartment above the building. Bode TM had operated the business for three years as Fred Deutschman. Crystal Lake linked friends visit. Art and Mrs Richardson and Paul and Patrick Enright of Cresco were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Paul Ratz.

Remembering a Beloved Mother and Grandmother Necas

The obituary notes the passing of a Czech mother and grandmother who, since marriage, lived on a farm and cared for family with devotion. Mr. Necas preceded her in death on April 1, 1941. The family extends gratitude to relatives, neighbors, friends, the hospital staff, doctors, and priests for flowers, spiritual bouquets, food, and comforting words.

Auxiliary Holds School Poppy Poster Contest

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsored a Poppy Poster Contest in the local school last week with six prizes awarded across grades. Judges were Mrs. Jack Robinson Mrs Emlyn Williams and Mrs R Kenneth Jones. Prizes went to Sheryl Bowers Alvin Phillips La Vonne Johnson in the lower grades and Duane Gobin Kathleen Johnson Joy Lombra in the upper grades.
