New Chevrolet Agency Opens in Lime Springs by Shoemaker Williams

Lime Springs welcomes a new Chevrolet dealership, Shoemaker and Williams, who formed a partnership to sell cars, parts, and service after securing a contract with Chevrolet. They arrived with two 1949 deluxe cab 2 ton trucks and plan a large one story garage next spring between the Theatre and the Lumber Yard, operating from Sharmaker Garage this winter as the 5S and W Motor Company.

Large crowd attends Lime Springs blanket event

Winners of the 12 Blankets at Lime Springs on last Thursday were Mrs Ross Steveryon Doris Patridse Russell Fitterard Mrs Cart Nise Mrs HF Marshatt Kenneth Mensink I E Murray Jon n Davis Roy Schmidt Arnold Ihns Jr Effie Evans and L w Rigas. The gathering drew one of the largest crowds ever seen, with tickets spilling from the concrete mixer used for collection. Weather was cold but satisfactory for the event.

Let Contracts on Fire Truck and Equipment

Bids were opened at the Town Hall for rural fire truck and equipment for Chester and Forest City Townships. The Firefighter Fire Truck Co of Rock Island and Fres Implement Co of Lime were favored for the gear and truck respectively, with five bids on equipment and three on the truck. Contracts total about 9000 dollars. The truck will meet Class B standards and resemble the recent LeRoy Minnesota purchase. delivery in about sixty days.

Christmas Dinner Guests Across Cedar Line Area

A long list of Cedar Line residents hosted and visited for Christmas and related days. Including Mr and Mrs Clarence King hosting with Walde mar relatives from Albert Lea and Le Roy, Harold Sikkink family in Vernon, and many others from Rochester to Cresco. Several births, deaths, and local gatherings are noted alongside school events and community visits.

Monoxide Gas Fatal to Two Chester Young People

Christmas tragedy in Chester: two youths die from monoxide gas exposure. Audrey Newhouse, daughter of Mr and Mrs Mayo Newhouse, and Ronald Culman, son of Mr and Mrs Nalhan Culman, identified as victims. The incident follows a double wedding event at McIntire where the couple and families gathered for a ceremony.

Christmas Guests Fill Homes Across Old Town

In Old Town many families hosted relatives for Christmas. Mrs Gilbert Oshelm and Julius Monthr traveled to Independence with Mrs Osheim spending Christmas there, while others like the Kesslers, Underbakke, Oswalds, and Joneses hosted dinners and visits. Numerous relatives from Luana, Chester, Can ton, Lans ingra, Gamaville, and Chicago joined parents in Holiday gatherings at the parental homes of Lidtke, Wennette, and Jones, with cattle shipments noted and travel between towns.

Legion Auxiliary Christmas Party at Chester Legion Mall

The American Legion Auxiliary held its annual Christmas party with about thirty members and guests enjoying a pot luck lunch, then exchanging gifts and singing carols led by Wendell Vander Ble and Mrs L W Johnson. Officers for the new year will be installed at the next regular Legion Hall meeting on Tuesday evening January 19. In Chester a tragic double death occurred when Charlotte Voves and Raphael Leichtnam were found dead in a car from monoxide gas after leaving a dance. Charlotte, 19, was valedictorian and active in school activities. Raphael, 21, a World War II veteran, had planned to marry Charlotte after graduation. Funeral services were held for Miss Voves and Mr. Leichtnam in Cresco and Festina respectively. The Rhone family survived an automobile accident near Saratoga, with injuries ranging from cuts to a broken nose and leg ligaments. The baby was found crying under the overturned vehicle.
