Fillmore County Plans Bond Issue for Road Network

Fillmore County proposes issuing 1.2 million dollars in bonds to finance a five year state aid county road improvement program next spring. A May 6 bond sale date is set with funds from the sale to accelerate construction and future state aid will cover principal and interest. Three new commissioners Ordell Garnens LB Mordahl and Hans Paulson will start Jan 1 with the annual board meeting at Preston.

The Saturday basketball program at Hew Winn School Attendance Centers restarts January 4 1969 for boys in grades three to six. Sessions run 9 30 am to 11 30 am at Lime Sprogs Ridgeway Elma and Cresco with teams formed for games. Participants bring gym clothes shoes and a towel as showers follow.

Stanley Franzen Named Campaign Manager For F B Membership Drive

Stanley Franzen of Cresco has been named campaign manager for the 1969 Howard County Farm Bureau membership drive by the board of directors. He has long served as a Farm Bureau member, captain, and on multiple committees and is now selecting volunteers. He and his wife Wilma and children Carol Ruth Ronald Janet Wayne and Cheryl live on a farm near Proughville.

Neighbors Harvest 90 Acres For Mrs Lee After Death

Neighbors picked and shelled 90 acres of corn for Mrs Virginia Lee after the death of her husband Robert Lee on November 24. Men with tractors, elevators, and pickers joined in a corn picking bee assisted by many local families and businesses. A card of thanks expresses gratitude for the help and meals provided by neighbor women.

Iowa Highway Commission proposes Lourdes bypass in Iowa

Plans received by Howard county engineer outline relocation of Highway 63 at Lourdes to bypass the town. The new route runs east then west returning to the original line about a mile and three quarters north of Lourdes. Intersections with Highway 9 at Pavis Corners to be renovated and paving expected in 1970 with 24 foot roads and 10 foot shoulders. Death of Rudolf Bueckmann 78

Rudolf Bueckmann 78 of Saratoga died December 12 at a New Hampton hospital. A former farmer in Rochester and Elma areas he aided government farm programs in Howard County in the 1960s and held several administrative posts. Born January 5, 1890 in Germany he learned the butcher trade before immigrating to America in 1913. Survived by three children Mable Reis Clarence and Isabel, two sisters and six grandchildren. Funeral December 14 at St Pauls Lutheran Saratoga with Rev Harold Mountain. burial in Saratoga Cemetery. arrangements by Conway Funeral Home Elma.

Youth Center Opens In Cresco With Singer Event

Snow accumulations and post holiday travel in Lime Springs

Reports describe more than a foot of snow with several storms recent to Christmas. Snow removal efforts used tractors and loaders as church services were canceled and travel slowed. Temperatures near nine degrees and continued forecasts warned of more snow ahead while residents followed the Apollo mission return with interest.

Snow Victim Mary Harnack Dies At Farm Home

Mrs. Mary Harnack aged 79 of Lime Springs area died Monday after shoveling snow at her farm. She was found about 6:15 pm. Funeral services set for Friday at St Stephen's Catholic Church Catster with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Survivors include son Albert and daughter Alice plus a sister and other relatives. Lindstrom Funeral Home handling arrangements.
