Looting of United Trust Bank Vaults Files Missing Boxes

Police estimate $60 000 to $100 000 in securities and valuables were stolen from 97 safety deposit boxes during a daylight raid on the closed United Trust and Savings Bank by a seven man gang. Attendants overpowered, vaults opened with chisels as criminals used a radio to monitor police calls. Four other people were restrained and bound in a back room. raid occurred as a cloud of destruction followed.

Farm Bureau activity in Howard County rushes sign-up drive

Field men push corn hog production control in town with temporary county sign-up committees led by P N Payne. A broad list of appointees across many towns forms the initial structure to mobilize farmers, elect township committees, and organize a county production control association once contracts are signed.

Haven Hurt When Wagon Wheel Runs Over Arms Near Foreston

H. D. Haven of east of town was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon at Foreston when his team shied at a passing car. The rear wheel passed over both arms, crushing and swelling them though not breaking. He was hauled from two miles north of Foreston to Cresco hospital by D. A. Larson ambulance and may be moved to further care. Sever Jacobson spoke with Haven during the stop.

Royal Theatre Reopens With College Humor Audience Attendances

A good crowd attended the Royal Theatre reopening last Wednesday. The opening feature College Humor drew favorable notices. Improvements to the heating system were completed. This Wednesday and Thursday, November 24 21, Three Cornered Moon will be shown, a 1983 picture praised elsewhere. Tickets for talkie trade shows cost 10 cents for all ages, with good sound and short subjects preceding the feature.

Town That Wins Two Hall Games

The Athletic Club defeated Colwell's Independents 42 to 19. Millard Horton led with 18 points, Percy Haven added 14, and Horton headed the forwards with Moe and Daris. Lime Springs beat Colwell 22 to 20 in overtime, with Horton again top scoring at 16.

Christmas Club Meeting Highlights and Readings

The J. J. Club gathered Monday at Jesate Taraldson's home for a Christmas program. Alma Hall reviewed National Geographic's The Earle King of Birds and his Hin, and Gladys Larson read Kate Douglas Wiggin's The Bird's Christmas Carol. A festive afternoon included a Christmas tree, gift exchange, and refreshments served by the hosts.

Returns to the Internal Revenue Bureau on blanks. penalties for evasion include fines up to 10,000 dollars or imprisonment. Farmers must keep records, and form C-1 is required for compliance.
