Santa to Visit Lime Springs After Free Matinee

Santa Claus will arrive in Lime Springs Saturday at 3 30 PM after a free matinee at the Lime Theatre. The film Francis in the Haunted Mouse stars Mickey Rooney and Francis the Talking Mule. A sack Christmas treat will be handed out by Santa on behalf of the Lime Springs Commercial Club. Stores will stay open Friday and Saturday nights 7 to 9 for last minute shopping and free movies. Methodist children collected gifts for Harriet Ballou Nursery and Hilcrest Babyfold, including soaps socks mittens towels and more, with a fourth grade scrapbook sent to Sioux City.

Rat Baiting Campaign Begins in Lime Springs

Funeral for Mabel Johnson, Lime Springs resident

Mabel Roberts Johnson 74 died Saturday night from a sudden heart attack. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Lime Springs Methodist Church with Rev. Merlin Ackerson officiating and burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. She was born June 25, 1828, near Lime Springs and lived much of her life in the area. She married William J. Roberts in 1814, later married Alton R. Johnson, and was active in the Eastern Star and Oneota Club. She is survived by her brother Charles Hewett and many nieces and nephews.

Christmas in Second Grade Celebrates Birthdays and Decorates

Surprised Birthday Dinner Honors Rural Carrier Charles Fish

A birthday surprise and retirement dinner for Charles Fish, rural carrier of Lime Springs No. 3, was held at Comer Cafe on December 6 at 7 o’clock. Post Office staff organized the event with gifts and a cake. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Fish and several local postal workers and their spouses. The Brown Park nativity scene, organized by Rev. Ackerson of St. Method Church, was lighted for evening viewing.

National Farmers Organization Annual Des Moines Convention

Delegates from Howard County attended the National Farmers Organization convention in Des Moines on December 12 and 13. Ori Lex Staley was reelected president and Erhard Pfingsten named vice president. John Engels from Rockford joined the Iowa board members. a push to revise rules strengthened state conventions and democracy. The Iowa NFC meets January 7 at Iowa State University Ames. delegates elected December 19 at Saratoga Hall.
