Hotel Kern disaster shocks Lansing with mass deaths
A fire destroyed the 215 room Hotel Kern in Lansing Michigan in the early hours. At least 40 people died including six lawmakers in a special session. Many guests were trapped, others leaped into the Grand River or onto the street. Fire officials and authorities began investigations and lawmakers proposed stricter hotel fire protections.

A winter feeding and shelter program is launched in Howard County through the Iowa Minnesota Protective League and Federal relief agencies. County relief administrators assign workers Wesley ing, Arthurall, Ange one to coordinate with Dr Plummer who supervises. F H Davis notes the need due to heavy snow covering feeds. Community members with feed information should contact Dr Plummer.
