Legion Auxiliary Packs Gifts for the Yanks

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall on Tuesday evening with sixteen members present. Hostess Mrs Vernon Atzen and helpers Mrs Arthur Phillips and Mrs Earl Foote assisted in packing seven boxes valued at five dollars each for the Gifts for the Yanks program, sent to the hospital in Knoxville.

School Christmas Program and PTA Meeting December 19

Annual program scheduled in the gym with free admission and a PTA donation. Band pieces include Rough Riders March and Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, plus various grades perform songs, plays, and dialogues. Comets and girls teams report recent wins and season notes. School closes December 20 for ten days and reconvenes January 2, 1947.

Herald to Publish Late Next Two Weeks

Christmas week shifts the Herald press day one day late with Lime Springs readers told to expect the issue Friday. Correspondents must file by the usual time. New Year week will also be delayed. Independents Triumph in High-Scoring Ridgeway Tilt

Lime Springs Independent edged Ridgeway 85 to 76 Monday in a fast paced game. A four player lineup due to weather held the visitors to a tied first half and a 64-64 third quarter before Lime Springs rallied late to secure the win. D. Munkel A. Nicoll H. Berner and E. Golden Comets Defeat Chester 54 to 24 in League Clash

The Golden Comets upset Chester on Chester’s floor 54 to 24. The game stayed tight early with a 16 to 13 halftime lead for the Comets, then surged in the third quarter as Lime Springs defense clamped down and the Comets pulled away 38 to 19. Chester fouled out in the final period as the second team added six points to seal the victory.

Santa to Bring Treats and Free Movies to Lime Springs

The Lime Springs Community Club announces Santa Claus will arrive at 2 30 pm next Saturday December 21 at the Lime Theatre. He will distribute treats to all school age children present. Two free matinees will be held that afternoon to accommodate all kids. Planning guidance encourages shoppers to visit Lime Springs during the event.

Auxiliary offers use of hospital equipment it owns

The Cresco Iowa Auxiliary of the American Legion offers public use of hospital equipment purchased from county fundraisers. Available items include two hospital beds with one fracture bed, two wheelchairs, a bedside table, crutches, and a baby incubator. Emryn Williams Returns From California Trip

Mr and Mrs Emr Williams and son Craig return Saturday from six weeks in California visiting their son and brother John Alton Williams a patient at the U S Naval Hospital San Diego nursing injuries from a football game on Oct 18 He is not yet out of bed and will be in a wheelchair or on crutches for some time The family traveled via many states visiting relatives and friends including Ames Cassidy Hartis Oceanside and San Diego before returning home to Iowa with daughter Suzanne.

Mrs Effie Mae Cunningham Taylor of Muscatine Iowa died December 11 1946 at Hershey Hospital in Muscatine She was born February 17 1875 in Mapleton Indiana and married Oren Edgar Taylor in 1894 The family lived in Eleanor City Texas Kansas Illinois and Bonair before settling in Lime Springs Iowa Survivors include five children Mildred Mrs Thomas Schutte Herbert Orville Everett and Albert with 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren One sister Mrs Roxanna Davidson and one brother Martin in Muscatine Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery Lime Springs The family thanks all for sympathy and kindness

Oneota Club Holds Annual Christmas Party

The Oneota Club gathered at Mrs. W. H. Evans home on Tuesday afternoon December 17 for its annual Christmas party. After a one o'clock luncheon, members played games, enjoyed a short program of duets and readings, sang carols, and participated in a gift exchange with each member adding a jingle to her gift.

Cougar hunt yields no trace in Granger event

The Granger American Legion sponsored a Sunday cougar hunt with 75 hunters. No trace of the mysterious animal was found. A coon supper served by the Legion Auxiliary in Granger hall was greatly enjoyed.

Glenn was recently released from the Navy after six years as a signalman.
