De Joode Named As One Of Iowa Master Swine Growers 1952

Howard County farmer Willam De Joode of Howard Center township was selected as one of 25 Iowa Master Swine Growers for 1952. The honor honors producers based on high performance in spring farrowings, litter size, growth, and marketing efficiency. De Joode averaged 10.91 pigs per litter from 12 litters, with all pigs reaching 201 lbs within 153 days, exceeding state averages.

Babson 1953 Outlook to be published January 1

Record 375 attend Howard County 4-H party event

The Howard County 4-H Party at Cresco High School Gym drew 375 attendees for achievement awards and recognition. County 4-H presidents JoAnne Norman and Charles Buhr led the gathering with committee chairs presenting honors to 54 top participants in demonstrations, projects, and activities. Awards covered girls and boys divisions, garden clubs, and top demonstration teams, with leaders and sponsors acknowledged for support.

Methodist Choir to Present Cantata Sunday Afternoon

Lime Springs Methodist Church Junior and Senior Choirs present the Christmas vespers on Sunday at 3 PM featuring the cantata Carols of Christmas by Ellen Jane Lorenz sung by the Senior Choir. The Herald will publish a day early over the next two weeks with editions around Wednesday December 24 and December 33. Golden Wedding Anniversary for Haven Couple Given Attention

Congratulations poured in as Mr and Mrs H D Haven celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary during an open house. More than a hundred neighbors and relatives attended from Harmony Le Roy Rochester Cresco Austin Swaledale and Farley. The couple married December 18 1902 at Esther Dahly's home in York Township Fillmore County Minnesota. They have three children two surviving Percy Haven Cresco and Harry Haven Swaledale with a daughter Marion Jannette deceased. The pair have lived on the same farm for 47 years and remain in good health. A former Monticello man Lee Warner is hospitalized in California after a 22 000 volt contact incident with a metal survey stick.

Santa to Visit Lime Springs on Christmas Eve Eve

Santa Claus will arrive at Lime Springs at 2:00 p m Saturday December 20 promising gifts for all children present. The Lime Theatre free show shifts to 3 p m with an evening program at 7 15. stores stay open until 9 p m for Christmas shoppers. Local Farm Land Sales Reported Around Lime Springs

Several 160 to 680 acre farms changed hands in the Lime Springs area this fall. Ervin Kallestad buys the Garrison 166 acre property on Highway 63, moving in next year. Knute K. Hovey purchases the Jones 160 acres at Greenleafton Corner. Elmer Hirsch buys the Lave 160 acres near Lime Springs moving March 1. Tom Mitchell acquires an unimproved 680 acre tract on Highway 9. Lyle Miller takes the Walter Wilmot 40 acres on Lime Springs edge. The Cart Thayer 160 acres west of Bonalr goes to an Estherville buyer. Reverend William Goetz was in a minor collision when a loose dual wheel struck his car near Tri Poli church. damage valued at about $250.
